Title: IGT Triple Diamond: UPDATE, No power to reels, buttons, or credits displays
Post by: MasonB56 on October 20, 2022, 07:09:21 PM
We bought a triple diamond machine from some guy near us and it worked well for a few weeks. We turned it on one day and 90% of the lights and buttons don’t work on the door and the reels are not spinning. The only thing on the door that works to my knowledge is the bottom tube light. I’ve checked the fuses on the power supply and they all look good. Anyone know what the issue could be?

UPDATE
I changed out the power harness from ps to mb still didn’t do anything the bottom tube light still works and the payout list light works at the top of the machine the bill acceptor still turns on when the machine is powered on but it doesn’t accept bills and never did when we bought it but that’s an issue for another day. I pulled both boards out no signs of burn or anything like that, there is a broken cable that goes from the door to the shelf the reels sit on thought maybe it’s a ground but I think it’s just to hold the door open. Reels still have no resistance and I don’t know what it could be pretty much all I can do is try to throw parts at it. Anymore ideas before I resort to that.

Did you check the power supply connector on the motherboard?  See this post for details.

I checked unplugged it and there were no signs of burn on it

I unplugged it earlier and there were no signs of burn on there.

Ok, that connector is a pretty common problem, but apparently not yours.  Did you check the fuses with a multimeter?  Sometimes a fuse looks good to the eye, but the meter may say otherwise.

Just checked and all 3 and they all were working on the multimeter.

I also forgot to add that the reels spin freely when on

I would revisit that PS to MB harness. It is such a common problem and your symptoms are textbook indicative of it.

After you get the new harness, grab a small container of de-oxidization fluid too.
Put a couple of drops on the motherboard's male pins.
Avoid the spray cans with the straws - those waste too much and make a mess.
All is needed is two drops on top of each of the six pins for the fluid to chemically clean them for better electrical contact.
An eyedropper or syringe needle works best.

I include the motherboard connector for replacement if anyone wants to do that.

You don't have any power.

Call me if you like - I sent you a PM

Can you try this?
Open the door, turn on the power switch.
Now watch the reels carefully as you wiggle the motherboard power Molex connector by the wires upwards a little.
Wiggle that big white Molex back and forth....the reels should "jiggle" like a reaction to being energized OFF/ON.

Why upwards?
Normally, that power Molex is pushed all the way down onto the bottom of the male pins.
We want to try to get the female pins inside the housing to grasp a different, higher part of the male motherboard pins - in effort to try to get them to contact power.
Having a new harness is fine, but the motherboard pins are probably oxidized to the point of electrical power not going thru if you haven't cleaned them with anything.
If you did, then please excuse me as you haven't mentioned it.

They shouldn't be absolutely free - like there's no power.
When you are powered up, there's some definite a "noticeable resistance" to them.
They are stopped, but they're not locked-in-place to the point where you cannot turn them with your hand.

The fluorescent tube bulb that lights up the reels may the same exact lamp behind the belly glass, as well as the topbox.
If it's blackened at either end, the lamp or the twist-in starter ballast may be burned out...Take a look.

Just tried that still nothing but I did retest the harness and the grounds have 10-12 volts so that might be an issue 😂

Hmmm...is your multimeter set on VAC?
Look at this.

My voltage is all over the place starting from edge green wire, 11v, next green wire 6.5v, blue wire 9.55v, red and blue wire 9.4v, orange wire 9.90, last orange wire gets 12v. All checked on vac

measuring AC voltages is different than DC voltages.  AC voltages use a common return voltage, so in your case, one meter lead on the green wire, other meter lead on the blue wire, 7vac, leave one meter lead on the green wire, the other on the brown /blue wire, 8vac,
one on green, other on orange/green,12vac, one on green, other on solid orange, 12vac,  now put meter leads on both orange and orange/green, 24vac.

if all these are good, then you are getting the proper voltages to the motherboard.

hope this helps
