Title: IGT Cleopatra Battery Soldered In (How to Change?) ...Last Question...
Post by: Dirty Slots on October 29, 2022, 09:51:21 AM
Hey guys, this beautiful Cleopatra S2000 5 Reel is in like new condition. It's time for the battery replacement. It seems to be soldered in from the bottom (hard to reach, but not impossible), and the top/side (see pics). There is a small gob of solder between the board and the battery, right on the edge where the left arrow is pointing. It looks like with the right angle, I could get it with the soldering iron. The other side should be easy, both from the top.

Another problem is there is no battery model # on it, so not sure what to buy to replace it.

Can you guys tell me how to safely remove this battery? I am good at soldering wires RC cars and drones, but I have never soldered anything "off" a board.

Also, what battery do I put back in? ....also, can I mod it to have a tray?  If so where can I buy it

P.S. Do I need a special soldering iron? What kind exactly?

Best way is to remove the board from the tray and de-solder the battery. Then install a coin cell holder so it will be easy to replace next time.

Anyone know what battery it is?

....so I would turn the board over and heat up the solder from the back until it falls out the front?

Will this soldering iron work? (25 watts)

The battery is a CR2032. No you can't solder wires to it.

Yes, always replace the battery with a battery holder so the next time a battery dies you just slip it out and slip in a fresh one.

After the battery is replaced you will need to follow the attached instructions on how to get the board up and ready for play.

That is the original battery they were soldered in so no hanky panky could be done on the casino floor.
If this is going to be used at home installing a battery holder and a CR2032 is the recommended replacement . That way when it goes dead again you slide in a new battery and a few jackpot key turns your back in business.

I use CR2354 battery holder and batteries on my S2000 50X series MPUs and 3902 Game King boards too.   Keeps things simple since S2000 MPUs and 044 Game King MPUs use CR2354s as well.  The added benefit of the CR2354 is it has close to 2X the capacity as the CR2032 battery.  The first one I put on a S2000 502 MPU board is almost 8 years old now and still going.  3902 game king board is about 6 years now and still going.

I also use CR2354 battery holder and batteries. They last much longer.

Hey, Thanks so much guy!

So with the factory battey in there: Would I heat the pin opposite the gob of Solder (on the right side of the battery)? Once I remove the board and turn it over.

Also, should I be wearing a static band when handling boards? I don't want to chance anything with my firends machine. He put that together himself (he added the round top, replacing the square one,  to match his other IGT, new bottom glass , perfect reels)...

Thanks again for the help guys!

For these boards and what you're doing, you won't need a static band.
Make sure the power is OFF first.
Secondly, make a habit of touching metal framing on the cabinet, before touching any circuit boards.
You will get rid of any static that might be on your body, by grounding thru the metal.

To get the coin cell off...all you would need to do is put a little heat onto one of the battery tabs going thru the backside of the MPU board while gently lifting the coin cell...then do the same for the other battery tab that goes thru the MPU board.
I made a short video for you once you've clean the battery holes with either solder sucker and are ready to solder in your new coin cell holder to the MPU board.
You don't even need to clean out the holes really.
All you need to do is add some heat to the solder that's already in the holes and push one of the tabs thru the softened solder....you have to push the tabs thru when the solder is hot and liquefied.
The video I made for you is of the battery holes cleaned out without much solder left.

Awesome.

Couldn't find any 2054 trays.  I'm ordering this one.  The tray appears to be marked. +/-

Getting a 100 watt soldering iron. (adjustable) I guess I should run it on 40 watts? or the hotter , the better?

Diameter :  23.0 mm is the size of a CR2354 coin battery.

I hope the one that you're ordering is big enough for the battery?

CR2032 batteries are only 20.0 mm in diameter.

I could not locate any 2054 battery trays. Does anyone have a link to some for sale?

....I just planned to use a 2032 battery instead.
