Title: Looking for older topic, regarding hopper continues to run.
Post by: DavidLee on January 24, 2016, 08:17:24 PM
Picked up another 809, did the usuall cleaning to get the reels to spin.
Has a couple of problems. One is the hopper continues to run because the payout step up is not receiving the pulse from the hopper. Also Cherries stopped paying, probably there is and open on the 90 wire circuit.
So I'm looking for the post pertaining to hopper that continues to run. Seems like it was posted a month or so back. Any information leading to this post will be greatly appreciated.

Have you clean all Contacts (about 100)? I bought an old slot for some years ago, and nothing worked in the beginning. But after cleaning all Contacts Everything starts to work properly.

Right, these machines slowly come back to life. When I got it the reels wouldn't spin because of the harden grease between the latch pawl and shaft. Will most likely have to go over the contacts again and recheck the wiring. During the last cleaning the cherries pay circuit lost power. Then it was intermittent so have a loose connection. The hopper issue of running is an incomplete circuit from the hopper, odds unit to the payout step up. But this is part of the adventure, trying to get theses old machines going again. Probably would take 3 times longer without the helpful people on this site.

Please be specific on your runaway hopper....
1 coin played, 2, 3, 4......5?
Have you tried bars pays?  Jackpot pays?
Does it runaway when there are no pays?
What do the payboard wiper fingers show after these pays?
Do any of your X-units work during payouts?  (with 2, 3, 4, 5 coins you should hear them working)
Damn, I just got improved internet connection and I don't have to sit all day waiting for pages, and lose my posts, too.
All pay signals go from coin out roller switch, up to odds unit, then to selected X0-unit (or not), and then back down to hopper payboard step up solenoid.  Any break gives runaway, so always check all coins in...1 thru 5.

Its a 809 machine single line up to 5 coins. On any pay the hopper runs, coins are despenced, but are not being counted. I'm suspecting an open in the circuit. Also the winner paid light never goes off. Which leads me to believe the machine may not be resetting. Anything to narrow down my search would be greatly appreciated.

Plan on going through the machine a couple of more times. I'll probably start a new post with more exact questions. The reason I was looking for the runway hopper was to read through the replies.

Glad you have a faster internet, I'm running about 18 Mbps at home and 45 at the shop.
Every once in awhile I reboot the router at the shop to get it up to speed.

Thanks again.
