Things i have noticed about clear and key processes.
« on: May 30, 2021, 05:10:38 PM »
There are a lot of people still confused about the key and clear process and there is a lot of conflicting information out about it.   Here are my observations on it based on documentation i have read, and refurbishing hundreds of s2000s over the last 10 years.

First what chip number you used is based on the sg chips you have not on your board this information is based off documentation and also practice. I actually only used ivc224 and key45 and I rarely run into s2000s they wont work for.

Second you do not need to put the base chip back in and boot the game between a clear and a key. I have never done this and have never had an issue.

Third on a lot of software sets you only actually need the key chip to change a key chip option. Meaning if the option is blank because you just did a full clear you can actually set things like the denom cabinet type and get a game working without a key chip. I recommend using the key chip anyway just so you know you can change everything, but if you forget to set an option while in the menu the first time just go back in and try to set it. Anything that defaults to an option like your game/pay percentage will be stuck at that default option.

Thank you for this. I had run into a post a little while ago with someone saying to reinstall the base chip after the clear.

The guy i was trained by swore you had to. I have seen documentation saying both ways I did like the added risk of breaking off a leg and tried it without and it worked so i never went back.

Also worthy of mentioning is under normal circumstances you shouldn't use a clear chip unless you need to change the accounting denomination.  A clear chip won't clear hard errors, it simply erases the RAM and EEPROM and the machine returns to default settings after it boots back up.  That often creates more problems as now you have to set up quite a few options correctly in order for the machine to operate again.  I cringe when someone thinks a clear chip is going to fix their bill validator comm error or other hard errors.

Hi Retro tech I am trying to change my Bill Limit on S2000 from 3000 to 100,000. I have had several opinions that you cannot change the Bill limits. I have a SB 101122 and a GME 399. IT IS A Super Stars with haywire. I have a 45 Kay and thought I would try that. Is it possible to change the Bill Limit?  If my memory is correct when I bought the machine it was 100,000 BL. I had to change  the coin battery and lost the BL. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

GME 399s will not allow for a bill limit over $3000.  GME 598s will allow over $3000 bill limit but you must use GME 399s with super spin sizzling 7s or it's clones.

edit: 598s will work with super spin! Thanks RB!

Thanks for your reply!!! I haven't had
 much response on the issue.

Just use the 598s. They are compatible with Type 143 games. I was unaware that they allow higher bill limits but Mark has confirmed it.

You don't have one of these documents for the "Triple Lucky Sevens" game (SB100923) do you? :D

There are no PSRs for stepper base chips that I am aware of.
