you have what appears to be a 17" game king/I-game cabinet.  you can fool the machine into thinking the door is closed when in reality it is open, you do this by pulling out the plunger on the two cherry switches.  this helps you see what the machine is doing when the door should be closed,  e.g.  the four amber lights come on when the door is closed and bv unit is ready.

when the machine is on, door open, you should see two red LEDS on, they are directly above the 8 switches on the right side of the bv unit,  this indicated power to the unit, if you did the stand alone  test and it does not work then the unit is bad!  that test will determine if the unit is working, doesn't have anything or any interaction with the machine to do this test, only requires power from the machine!

look closely at the switches and the numbering , some people try the test and have the wrong switches flipped.

if you determine your unit is defective, you can send it to sunrise side, he can rework the unit and have it accept bills like it is a new unit.

Update and it's good news for a change! It just so happens I have a slot machine store right down the road from me so I took the BV and cash can in there. They were able to test both and determined the cash box was good however the transport was not functioning. Got me a working unit for $85 so I'm not complaining too much. Just happy I can use the machine now. Thank you to everyone for their help on this. I've already learned a ton about this machine and am fascinated with the inner workings of them. Super cool!

I've already planted the seeds for another machine to the wife. She's not biting on it yet, but I will keep working!

I don't believe this question deserves a completely separate thread so I'll ask here knowing full well you will laugh at me. I have the machine plugged into a surge protector. When I'm done playing, can I power the machine off using the switch on the surge protector or should the machine always be powered off with the switch inside the slot? I've always used the button inside the machine but was thinking it would be slightly easier to just click it off without having to open the front door.

Turning off the surge protector is fine. I wish everyone would use surge protectors. I have told everyone that has bought machines from me in the past to use one but only a few actually do.
