Error 61 on Double Diamond Deluxe
« on: November 26, 2022, 04:42:41 PM »
I recently inherited a Double Diamond Deluxe slot machine. I've never attempted to repair any slots before. I'm getting the error 61 on the winner paid window. I've held the white reset button down and got to the error 61-1. My issue is that I don't have the jackpot reset key, and the wires on the inside of that lock are not connected. It's a green wire and yellow wire connected to a round black peice with 2 contacts.

Can someone link me to a replacement key? Also, do I need to replace anything on the inside, not sure if it's missing something.

Lastly, and sort of unrelated. Everytime the power is turned on the bill acceptor sounds like it's feeding in and out for about 30 seconds. Is this normal?

The key you need is a 2341 reset key.  You should be able to get one from just about any vendor here on NLG or off of Ebay.  It sounds like the wires are on the connected to the backside of the keyswitch like they should be.  If you post a picture of it we can tell you for sure.  Photos have to be under 1MB in size, so rescale as necessary to get it under that limitation.

The bill validator cycling on power up  is normal and a good sign that it may work.

Congrats, you inherited a popular themed slot machine.

Thank you for the info. I've attached 2 photos of the interior where the jackpot lock switch is. Let me know if you need additional photos.

you can remove the lock and pull the wires through the cabinet and then temporary short them together to simulate the switch as a temporary work around. Don't let either wire touch anything. Jim at midwest slots should have a new key & lock switch.  1-513-984-2201

Good pics.  That piece broke off the back of the keyswitch so you need a keyswitch and a key.  Like Robin get ahold of Jim at Midwest Slots for the parts, remove the old one, stick the wires through it, and use a jumper wire (or paperclip) to jump the two wires together where it when it says to turn the keyswitch.

Alright, thank you for the help. I'll give that a shot and call to get a new switch and key. I'll update when I do.

I believe I'm stuck in the 61 loop now.

I turn the machine on get 61, hit the reset button to get to 61-1, closed the main door, I tried to jump the jackpot reset wires but nothing. Then noticed the 2 wires in the photo laying inside. I figured they went to the door switch so I tied them together. Then jumped the jackpot wires again. 61-1 cleared from the screen, and about 5 seconds later 61 appeared again.

My questions are:

Do I need a clear chip? If so, where can I find one?
Are those 2 wires for the door switch? If so, what terminals do I attach them to?

Those look like they broke off the door optic. Don't jump the wires together. Get new optic.

Those have to be the door optic wires. Get new optics from Jim also. Don't jump them together. You may or may not need to clear the machine. I'd start with the optics first and only clear the machine as last resort. Clear and Bill Validator set chips can be had from member here by the name of RB.

Okay, I sent Jim a message to get a new optic and lock/key set. I'll update once I receive and install the new parts. Thanks for all the help.

Update:

I received the new JP lock and door optics. Installed them and then turned the machine on. It displayed the 61 error, but after holding in the reset button it did not go to the 61-1 error. It goes blank for a few seconds and then back to 61, no tone is played either. I decided to close the door and turn the JP lock. It displays what's in the attached photo. I can press buttons and pull the lever to change them,  but have no clue what they mean.

Questions:

Can someone attach a photo of properly installed door optics?
Do I need to go through the clear chip procedures?
Can someone send info on what the numbers mean?

It almost sounds like you are in a statistics mode.
That is what you get when the door is closed - ready to play and you turn the reset key.

Make sure that the reset key switch is not closed or the wires twisted together.
This is a momentary contact switch and it is normally open.

Open close the door and then press the white test button and see if you get to your 61-1 state.

If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Okay, so I turn the machine on and got the 61 error. Hold the reset button and goes blank then to 61 again. Closed the door, turn the reset key and get random numbers. I can pull the lever fully, but it only changes the numbers. Wont detect coins, just pops them out in the bottom tray. Also won't accept bills. I opened the door and hit the reset button again and does nothing, just stays at random numbers. Also, after hitting either the "change" and "bet one credit" buttons multiple times, it will go back to the 61 error.

If your not getting to the 61-1 then the next sequence of turning the reset key is not going to help you.

When you turn the reset key in when the door is closed you go to statistics mode.....however..... I think the good news here is that the machine sees your door closed which looked like it was the first issue.

I think you are in the dreaded 61 loop and now need to run a Clear Chip though your machine to correct it, if you don't have a Clear Chip, get both the Clear chip and a Set chip as you will need the latter to activate your bill validator.

You can use the forum search function to read about the 61 loop.

Update:

I was able to use a clear chip to get out of the 61 loop. Now I'm getting an error code 21: coin in tilt error in the winner paid window. Here's what I've already done:

-Ensured there was no coin jammed
-Put a clean and undamaged coin in the sample coin slot
-Blew out the area of dust and debris

Questions:
Is the red bulb on the coin comparator supposed to light up?
What other steps can I take to fix this new issue?

It does light up when the door is closed - but of course you can’t see that.
It’s the coin optics that cause the 21 not the comparitor.
The coin optic board is below the comparitor.

Remove and reseat the harness.
Press the white settings button a couple of times as that should clear the error and close the door.
If the 21 comes back when you drop in a coin search the forum for the popsicle test.

The optics are called ABC optics - as a coin passes it triggers each of the optics in sequence.
The popsicle stick test is a test mode where each of these can be tested as good / bad / etc

I would also check the white Molex harness connector that plugs into the coin-in optics board under the comparitor.
If I were to purposely unplug that connector, the machine would immediately give me a code [21].

Fully disconnect the coin-in optics board by pulling the Molex housings apart, and then reconnecting them together.
The simple act of doing this, will partly clean the oxidization of the male and female pins inside of the housings.
Sometimes this may help you get rid of a code [21].

Another reason you can get a code [21] is the bottom, black ground wire can be broken that goes to the coin comparitor.
Take your time and carefully inspect that black wire from end to end.
It's a common problem wire that gets broken by floor techs in a casino.
Too often, I've seen techs pull the harness by the wires, rather than by the housing body.

Update:

I removed and repeated the white harness on the coin comparitor and the brown harness beneath it. Pressed the white reset button. Here's where I think it's odd; after the reset button is pressed, it still displays 21, I close the door and 21 goes away, about 10 seconds later the reels twitch slightly and 21 appears again. And a couple times a 0 would flash in the coins played window.

I haven't done the popsicle test, i don't have a popsicle stick right now. But, do those symptoms warrant any other issues?

I would stop playing with the comparator.
The 21 error is only related to the coin optics.

A popsicle stick is ideal but any flat object will do.
Ie Cut a strip from the lid of a margarine or sour creme container.
A strip of thin cardboard etc.

You just want something that you can insert into the coin slot and block the optics.

You can also do the test with nothing. You will get 0’s or 1’s
If you get a 0’ the optic is either blocked or dead.

If you take the optic board out. You take the screws out - there are two halves. You can clean the dead optic with a qtip and a bit of water (never alcohol or windex) put it back together and see what happens.

If it’s still showing a bad optic you can cut Q4 ( search the forum for q4) which basically eliminates the 21 error but also renders your optic board as non functional. For the average person this is not an issue - but you can also use it interim until you get some new optics.

So I did the popsicle test. Went through 10-1, 11-0 and 12-0. When I blocked the optics nothing changed, on any of them. I cleaned the optics again with water and tried the test again, same out come. Here's what they display:

Winner paid 10_1 coins played 1
Winner paid 11_0 coins played 1
Winner paid 12_0 coins played 1

Should I go ahead and clip q4?
We just have it in our house for fun, so it doesn't need to be perfect, just operational.
