Well, as all pet owners know in the back of their mind, the day will come to say goodbye. Sunday was such a day for me. I had to say goodbye to Sable, my female Akita that I have had from 6 weeks old. My wife called me at work and said Sable had thrown up her food and just couldn't seem to get comfortable. When I got home, I noticed she was lethargic and dry heaving, so we rushed her to the emergency vet. After an exam and x-rays, it was as I feared, bloat, her stomach had twisted inside. My girl never complained once in her life, no yelps of pain, but she was whining on the gurney and that was even after they gave her pain medication and eleviated the gas buildup in her stomach. I had hoped for her to pass in her sleep, comfortably, because with her being such a loving part of the family, she had earned that in my book. Alas, it was not to be. Knowing her age and declining health, I made the decision all owners dread, I would have to make her pain go away the only way possible. My wife and daughter, with whom she grew up with were there as well. We gave her comfort and love and as I stroked her head and whispered loving statements, I saw her light fade away as the doctor gave her the injection. The take charge man I was turned into a babbling infant the second she was gone. I would be remiss not to say how great a member of the family she was and her instinct, intuition, calmness and unconditional love was a joy to experience. My Sable girl, I miss you and will always love you. With all my heart I hope we will see each other again when the time comes.

That story touched my heart. :sorry: We too will be going thru this same thing with our sweet Muffy. She is now 13, diabetic with two shots a day, almost completely blind, skin allergies (scratches a lot no matter what you use on her), eye allergies, eyes are itchy a lot (we use Bausch + Loms doggy eye drops). Has had 2 bouts of pancreidas. In spite of all this she still gets around the whole house, eats well, (but has to be hand feed sometimes so she can get her shots on time) goes outside when it's time. She knows everyone by smell. She sits up a begs for treats when she knows it's someone not living here. I know she has no real life but we can not let her go, not yet.

I know the feeling as I lost my Red Girl last May after 11 years.
I still have her four legged sole mate (Blondie) and he is getting
spoiled rotten in his old age.
-
I have two dogs... A Stafford Shire Terrier (English Pit Bull), which has smaller head than the American Pit, but MUCH larger body to head proportion..... Her name is ROXY, and is a beautiful brindle color.. Her step brother, is BRUTUS, who joined our family 3 years ago when my wife's brother couldnt keep the dog at his new place we were happy to bring him in... Both of them are 7 years old (not sure on Brutus exactly, but Doctor's at the Vet think so)

Sorry about the passing of your dog Sable..... What a beautiful dog! God works in mysterious ways, and when its time, its time.... I feel your pain, for I too, have had to let a few of my "best friends" move on into the afterlife... God bless...

-
this is Bentley...i had to let him go in march of this year...even for a cat, he touched my heart, which really struck me as odd, mostly because i am a dog lover...my last dog i had to let go was Honey..she was 17...just like a daughter i swear!!! now all i have is Hans...not sure how im going to handle it when it comes his time...im thinking about getting him a brother or sister for company but...
i came home from working 3rd shift one day...saw a flashing light thru the curtains, and wondered what happened
anyways...am very sorry for everyone who looses a companion...its very painful but thankfully we have pictures and our minds!!!

This is Abby and Jenny. Abby is 6 and Jenny is 8 mos. Two of the most loyal companions a person could ever hope to have.
Jenny has the green eye in the first picture. Still growing and already 3" taller, 5# heavier than Abby

Today is a sad day for our household. Our sweet Muffy had to be put to rest today. After 13 years this month our sweet Muffy just gave up. She had many medical problems including being diabetic for 8 years along with pancreititis twice. She had a good life as we brought her back from certain death at least 5 times. When she quit eating, even with hand feedings, that was her way of telling us she wanted to let go this time. She will always be in our hearts. :'(
-
Ron, I'm sorry to hear about Muffy. There isn't much one can say to alleviate your pain, but just reflect on the love you guys shared over those wonderful 13 years. Take care.
Dan (tacman)
-
Ron, so sorry for your loss. I'm sure she had the best life a dog (or person probably) could have hoped for
-

-
Awww this is so sad...such a loss...seriously brings tears to my eyes...i feel so sorry for your loss, as it brings back the pain of me losing mine...Muffy looks so cute...i know its hard, but remember the last 13 years of fun and joy that she gave you and your family...be a peace that she is no longer hurting and at the perfect rest

I lost my best friend Shadow. On Thursday night went to bed & he was OK. Got up in morning & he was on floor @ foot of my bed. He passed during the night. One good thing is he didn't suffer. He had no health problems. Think he had a heart attack. I know how you all feel to lose your pet. IT HURTS.

-
Ford, my condolences for your loss. Yes, losing a loving pet hurts, but upon reflection of the years of love and devotion they give us, I would endure the pain rather than not experience the joy they bring us. Take care.
Dan (tacman)
-
Thinking of you Ford and your family's great loss. :sorry:
-
Most Slot Tech's have lap dogs why is that I have a mini schnauzer
-
Ours..... Yes if you can count them there are 8. We also have 4 Manx cats. Dogs: Scooter, Holly, Zoey, Chloe, Betsy, Rusty, Teddy and Tucker. Cats: Bindi, Bonnie, Max and Bob. Breakfast around here is insane! But they are all our kids.
-
Wolf Run, Winter Wolf, Wild Huskies, she's my husky. This picture is from I movie I did on my spare time called JU-F-O. Her name is Juno and she has a blue and brown eye.
-
Jenny, our youngest, had total hip replacement on her right side yesterday. Resting comfortably at home today
-
Cowboy, hope she recovers well and quickly. No "Cone of Shame"?
Dan (tacman)
-
Cowboy , I also hope the best for your pet! I know how a pet can be your best friend,As I lost mine, But he will alway's live on.. Hope Hope the best of Luck for you..... John
-
Thanks you guys, she is doing really well so far, the recovery will depend on our vigilence to her physical therapy so all should be well.
We have the cone of shame, but she's been really good about not screwing around with her incision, we're keeping a close eye on her.
By the way, if anyone ever has the need, Colorado State University Veterinary Training Hospital does a fantastic job. They were doing open heart surgery yesterday when we were there and I guess it went well also
-
Nice to see folks who love their pets. :cool_thumb_up:
Michigan State has a great vet clinic too! Took a race horse and one of my dogs there few years back. Great people!
-
Do you have to assist her getting up or walking up/down stairs with the towel trick?
Dan (tacman)
-
Mine also just had back surgery , he had a herniated disc in his spine that left his back legs paralyzed, couldnt stand /walk , Thanks to UC DAVIS he was walking the next day, spent 5 days there , Hes doing great now, Hope the best for your dog cowboy , pete
-
We have a sling we use to walk with her, but it's only to catch her if she slips or loses her footing somehow. They want her to do it herself as much as possible albeit for no more than 5 minutes at a time for a couple weeks.
Pete, congratulations, hope your buddy continues to improve and all goes well
-
"Dogs" are the best family!
I miss our "Mr. Grumbles" and Cassie (two Corgi's) a lot...but Yoda is here now and he steals the show :)
-
A while ago I sent WMS an idea for a theme. I wanted to remember my Corgi Boy, so I sent in pictures for artwork for a new slot.....
WMS DID IT!!!
"Corgi Cash" was born.......
-
That's so cool Kirk! I'll be looking for it.
-
Meet Juno... My Wild Husky... actually she is mellow and sweet. I just put her in a short film I made to be released soon.
-
That's a good looking dog you have there :applause:
-
Well as of 2:30 est I will be saying Goodbye to our dog Phoenix.. She been a family member for 12 years, sometime in the past few days she's had a stroke and can't hardly walk or drink, or eat.. So we have decided its time, no need for her to suffer. She will be missed. My house is quiet, I miss her talking to us in the mornings and when we would come home. I feel bad for my other dog Leia who's lossing her life long buddy of 8 years.
R.I.P Phoenix. We love you, and will miss your smiling face..
-
:(
This is breaking my heart. I have a husky that's 7 and has hip dysplasia. It's only a matter of time that It will get quiet here too. Phoenix looks like a sweet dog :)
I mourn your loss as huskies/malamutes have a special place in my heart!
-

Have you looked into some of the alternatives to full hip replacement? Some are relatively inexpensive and can be done in the local vet clinic. If Jenny'd been 7 instead of almost 2 we might have gone with one of the other treatments

We are waiting to get into a better vet. The one we went to was useless and I spent a ton of money there! :duh:
My mom had to put her dog down and her vet wasn't taking new patients, so she just called this week and I will be going to get vet that is suppose to be really good. I have her on glucosamine in the meantime. She seems to better but still gets spasms. :(
-
It's done.. She's resting now.. Phoenix lived 12 years, and that at the top of her years for the breed.. We wil miss her.. Leia and myself are heading home.
-
Good luck, hope they can do something to help her out. In the mean time a little rymadil will help also, it's an anti-inflammatory and dogs absolutely love them
-
....
-
Spent 17 grand on this one - two back surgeries
I also feed about 30 cats.

There was nothing left to do for Phoenix. She is in God hands now, and in mine and the wife's hearts and memory's. Now its time to give my other dog Leia some extra love and attention. I know she's going miss Phoenix more because they were playmates.

Sorry to hear.

Kirk is the picture from the game the picture you sent in? My family is a corgi family as well. Mom and Dad has 2 Pembroke (M and F) and I have a Pembroke (the litter mate brother of my parent's male) and we rescued a female dog a year ago that is half Cardigan half Australian Shepherd. As I'm sure you know, the house is always furry even though we vacuum the floors daily
One of the racinos here in Cincinnati has a single Corgi cash game. I play it every time I'm there and it is always good to me. I think it knows I'm a fan. Won $175 on it over the weekend 3 minutes into the casino.
-
So sorry for your loss. We lost our cat Molly last month and I still feel the loss.
They become such a part of the family it's hard to loose them.
-
Sorry for your loss rwalker, they really are family, some people just don't get it. I haven't lost a pet yet, but my son Casey would have been 23 today, had he lived I hope he would have turned out better than me instead of just being in a better place
-
Loosing a son has to be the hardest thing to ever go thru. Life doesn't make sense when things like that happen.
My prayers are with you on his birthday.
-
Our two baby's Trixie and Wiz. Taken before we moved to Florida, In Maine they would huddle in front of the heater!
-
Thanks for the the pic rwalker! I had kittykitty before I got married, he was a himylaian(?), and he would sleep on my pillow and lick my face to to wake me up in the morning. Best cat I ever had! You didn't want to wait to long to wake up though, it would leave a scab, lol
-
I go thru the same thing with Trixie, She will stat to meow and if I don't wake up she will open my Wife's jewelry box and start to pull jewelry out! It's a good thing she's cute!

i still can’t figure out how to post pictures, please don’t make fun of me guys... I recently lost Morgan. she was a beautiful hound/something mix we got from the shelter. All hound, bayed never barked her whole life. Loved food so much she constantly plotted against us for more, but in the nicest way possible she’d swear. My lazy old hound dog was the best friend you could have, she would just lay right next to you in the bed under the covers or on the couch and didn’t know how to stop giving kisses. She4 was so sweet she never growled or acted aggressive. I always said she would kiss a burglar to death. When she got sick and started not eating one day and puking her food up I know we were close to that horrible day, but imagine my shock when it was the day. It just destroyed me. Everyone’s arguing we should or shouldn’t get another pet and everyone keeps switching sides and it’s been 6 months so as you can see we’re all still shell shocked.

Spooky is 19 years old (white nose) Salem is 8 years old. Both are rescue cats, both were found when they were young kittens.
I've all ready had to put asleep Teddy my Cocker of 12 years, and Sammie a cat of 10 years, both were painful to loose, both were young when I got them.
-
Thought I'd revive this category and post a shot of my "kitten," who really ins't a kitten anymore.
She came with a handle!
Special thanks to Ed / 63mini and his wife, for this wonderful cat, that has definitely lightened up my life greatly in the last few months!
She was born in Las Vegas - her name is Casi (short for Casino).
(My profile photo is Libby, on top of the Fortune 1. Sadly I had to have her put down in October 2021. Ed and his wife noticed a resemblance of one particular kitten from their momma cat - and that's the one I now have!)

This was our Bubba. We had rescued him from a certain death. He was diagnosed with Megaesophagus which if left unmanaged, can lead to death in 90 days. Worked very hard to make him gain weight. He went from 25lbs to 40 in no time. He was such a tart but boy could he make me laugh. He died last month, 25 days before making a full 4 years of nothing but bless and joy of having him. 2 of these years were spent in diapers around in the house. Was a lot of work but I would do it all over again if it meant to be with him again. RIP ol boy. ♥
-
bigdps,
Sorry to hear of your lost. You did Bubba GOOD! Thanks to people like you who are willing to give that EXTRA to take care of an animal in need! :cool_thumb_up:
-
What a wonderful story and sorry for you loss. Still it sounds like Bubba had a very full life for those four years.
