Title: Test switch not able to save options
Post by: MazzMayhem on April 02, 2021, 12:20:18 PM
Hello, I have a PE+ that I’m am trying to setup. When I bought it the battery on the mpu was dead. Replaced battery, installed set chip 38, powered up with the door open and get the set denomination/enable bill validator screen, selected .25 cents enable bv, pressed the test switch to save options and nothing, did not save options. Replaced test switch will a new one same thing did not save options. If I close the door with the game chip installed and start it up I get call attendant error, open the door I now get call attendant, door open and cmos error. Press and hold test switch for 5 sec and nothing no beep nothing. So I am stuck can not go any further until I am able to save options. Any thoughts?

So I am stuck can not go any further until I am able to save options.

That's not entirely correct -- you don't need to set the denomination or enable the bill validator to get the machine up and running with coins.  You are stuck, however, until you can get your machine to recognize that you're pressing the Self Test button as you need to press and hold it for five seconds to get past the CMOS error.  As such, for now, forget about the SET chip and let's focus on getting the machine past the CMOS error screen.

Just to eliminate the easy stuff, can you please post a picture of the button you've been pressing showing its location in your cabinet?  Sometimes folks new to this are pressing buttons that aren't related.

You also need 0 credits on the machine before you can set any options.

Thanks for the reply, as I was checking the 3 wires I had soldered to the test switch I noticed I had melted some of the plastic housing. I held the switch up to my ear while pressing the switch and I’m not hearing or feeling that click that I should. So I ordered another switch and will be taking it to someone with better soldering skills than me. Should be here in a few days I will update the post.

Pick up a multimeter. You can use it to test the button.
Simply set it to Ohms rich the two leads together and the needle bounces
Using the leads on the button you can tell if the button is working as the needle will move over (or not).
Shouldnt cost you much more than $20 at Home Depot or Lowe’s.
