I have a new to me Bally S5500 Firecracker. This is my first S5500
I’m getting a error 42
Reel 2 will not initialize. It either jerks up and down or turns and doesn’t stop.
I’ve tried numerous Complete clears
If I change the reels around (like 1-2 or 3-2) the problem stays in the middle.
So it’s not the reels, what else could it be?

Try reseating the reel harness at the backplane. When you performed the clear, did you keep the door open until the reel calibration was finished?
-
I have reseated all of the reel harnesses and everything that plugs into the backplane board. Yes door is open, reel 1 and 3 work as they should. Reel 2 spot is the only problem
-
Did the reel calibration finish with door open, after the clear? If you have done a proper clear, then try another MPU.
-
Reels 1 and 3 will calibrate but 2 just shakes. This is my only S5500, so I can not try a different board. Would any of the chips be the problem?
-
Not sure which chips control the reels. You can send the board to Alan at K-Lar for test and repair.

I live in Canada, is there someone in Ontario that repaired boards? Or is there somewhere I can get the software for the chips to program new chips? U3, U4, U12, U15
-
Not sure about board repairs in Canada. If you want new chips, contact NLG member RB. He may have them. Have you tried reseating all the chips on the board? Are there any bent pins on the MPU edge connector?

I had this problem as well with a 5500. The reels were resetting properly after a clear and I had one reel that kept failing when playing.
I changed out the mains and the problem was gone. Apparently at least one of the 4 mains was bad.
jjslots.com has the mains and game chips

Excellent I will try that for sure, thank you!
