Title: IGT S2000? Few Issues
Post by: Pinkodoc6420 on May 19, 2022, 02:52:12 PM
Just got my hands on this 777 Red Hot machine from my father in law. It needs some tlc but seems to be mostly in working condition, it comes on, lights up, spins the reals when you plug it in. The current errors are main battery low and door closure M. I popped out the board and checked the coin cell battery and ordered one, but in the slot where I assume that green problematic battery used to be someone soldered in what looks like a home phone rechargeable battery, I did not dig deeper into that because it's under the sound board but I could if you all think I need to.
I got into the menus and tested the lights and sounds, the right speaker is dead so I'll replace that, but based off these pics of the boards does anyone think replacing the coin cell cr2354 battery will fix the main battery low issue? Also the bill acceptor runs when it starts up, but does not accept money, is there a way to bypass it to be able to run it temporarily? I did alot of reading here to get this far but I'm still an amateur at this! I'm not 100% how to post pictures here so here's a link

It will not play until the battery has been replaced. Be patient. Most hardware stores have the 2354

Someone soldered a black and a red wire to the posts.
Remove the screws holding the piggyback board and take a picture of what's going on under there.

Can I ask you a question?
Why are you calling your machine a "VGT" ?
IGT makes the S2000 model.

For some reason I keep typing VGT, knowing damn well it's IGT, don't ask lol. The new battery should be here from Amazon tomorrow. I popped out the current coin cell and hit it with a multimeter and it's dead dead. I also probed that weirdo battery they soldered onto those posts and it's showing 3v, so I think it's ok, should I still poke around in there and get you pics?

yep...no one knows what was done using those wires.
That's NOT normal.

Also, What MPU board version do you have?
Is it a 1270?
Look at the last 3 or 4 numbers.

I downloaded your photo which was too large to post.
Most newbies have photos that are too small! haha
Using Windows Paint, I reduced one side to 1000 pixels, saved it onto my desktop and I was able to upload it onto my Reply.

75512701, does that sound right? I took pictures of every number I saw on the board before I put it back together. And yea it wouldn't let me attach the pictures here because they are too big! Lol
When the new battery comes in tomorrow and I replace it I will pop that top board off and get some pictures of what they did, I can see some sort of battery pack stuffed under there, should I just remove it or post some pictures and wait to hear from you guys?

okay...you have a 1270 MPU.
Do try to get some shots of what they did....leave the modification alone for now.
I'm hoping you'll be okay with the new cell battery.
BTW always check new batteries with a multimeter when removing from package before installing.

Got it, battery should be in by the time I get home from work so I'll check it for voltage and update then! Thanks for the help

Please do NOT use offsite photo links. They ALWAYS disappear over time. I downloaded and added your photo in the first post. For future photos, simply click  Attachments and other options and add your photo with the NLG system. Make sure it's 1mb or smaller. If you have trouble, contact me.

I apologize, but you are gonna have to school me about using NGL to attach photos? I posted them directly from my phone which makes it difficult to get them under 1mb, they are about 6mb when I take them.

Try this. Using your phone, email the photo to yourself. When you do that you are able to resize them. Size them down to at or around 1MB.

Alright so replaced battery, error is gone, machine accepts bills now and shows correct amount inserted. Screen shows "Play 75 Credits" I have 150 credits in the machine but pushing the spint reels does nothing, no buttons do anything. I did the I/O tests and confirmed they all work, any ideas? Probably missing something dumb

You have to make a bet first.
Check under the button deck and confirm the "Bet" button switch and wiring is seated upwards into the button properly.

Iv tried pushing all the bet buttons, still won't go. I did the I/O tests and all the buttons register as working. Here's a video I took showing the issue.

VGT was driving me crazy. Seeing the max bet button flashing is strange. Did you try opening and closing the door a few times? Are you still in programming mode?

I have opened and closed the door a bunch, I just tried to reseat the buttons and all seems good. The buttons all flicker for a few seconds when the machine first turns on but then stop. The weird thing is when I'm in the menus and doing the testing all the buttons work fine.... How do I know if I'm in programming mode?

I am guessing you can't add any more credits. Maybe denomination not set for .02??

Post by: Pinkodoc6420 on May 21, 2022, 04:23:51 PM
It'll keep accepting cash to increase credits, no matter which bet buttons I push it just says bet 75 Credits, but there's enough credits that it should let me spin? If you look at the video I posted I showed that there's enough credits. I'm scratching my head here I just wanna play the damn thing lol

Even if the denom. is set for say $200? Press white button, machine options, player denom. Just because the glass says .02 maybe not be

There is no player denom option there, but the screen does say "1 credit= $0.02"

Ok so I believe there is an issue with the ten button I/o card, I pulled them both out and they are both exactly the same per the stickers, so I swapped them with no luck, swapped them back and now I get the "ten button io card not found" error on the screen. How should I proceed?

...I pulled them both out and they are both exactly the same per the stickers, so I swapped them with no luck, swapped them backed?...

Please tell us you turned the power off first?
take photos of the i/o circuit boards....we'll be able to tell if they're fried.

BTW What numbers are on the i/o boards?
The one that faces outwards and the one that faces inwards.

It's also possible you have their respective harness connector Molex plugged into the wrong place too (backwards).
We need to see how your button i/o harnesses are connected to help you further.

Another thing I would inspect are for bent/folded-over pins underneath the MPU & the door i/o cards.

Yes I had it powered off, I checked the mpu for bent pins, as well as both cards, I also looked for frayed wires, and made sure everything was connected properly. I'll get a picture of how they are connected after work, but here's a pic of the label on the card

Got a new I/o card and still showing the 10 button io card error, here's some pics

Those two I/O cards are not supposed to be the same.  The one at 45deg angle needs 801, the other one should be 802. EDIT.  both should be 802 if 5 reel machine.

How can I tell the difference? They were both the same when I got the machine and the ten buttons worked partially at one point

Oh I see you have 5 reel, they both should be 802s.

Any clue what to do here? They are both connected, I tried swapping around and same error, this error was not present previously, it's a recent thing. I checked all connections I could

You have enhanced I/O cards. They should be the same number (14940201W) I have this same setup. I assume there are differences in the card sockets so they have the correct SENET addresses.

With the regular I/O cards, the one at a slant on the inside needs to be an 801. The one that is vertical on the outside has to be an 802. You don't need to worry about that.

Yea the replacement I just got from eBay is the same as the two in there, I swapped them, swapped the wires, can't think of what else to do to get the thing to see the card. How do I hard reset this? When I replaced the bad battery my father in law did something with the key, turned it a few times and it said on the screen to hold the button on the board for a few seconds and it did a reset, but I can't seem to replicate that to see if that would help

I don't think it will help but you can remove the coin cell for a minute and re-install it. You will have to turn the key and push the button to get it to run again. The display will tell you what to do. Probably need (door open) to turn the key 3 times and hold the test button for a few seconds. Then close the door.

The black cards are universal on 99 percent of s2000s. They are the replacement for the 802. 802 also are universal on 99% of s2000s. The only time they are not is if the machine is very early before igt put the addressing jumpers on the slot on a 45 degree angle. You can use and 801 and an 802 at the same time in a 5 reel but the 801 has to be in the 45 degree slot. The 801 and 802 card is identical except for the fact the 801 had resistors in place locking its address to the 45 degree slot. If you have a 5 reel machine and have an 801 in the wrong slot both will think they are for a standard button deck.
