Title: Bill Validator
Post by: Cleobud on June 16, 2022, 10:29:17 AM
My validator no longer accepts bills. Let me describe:  3 coin type 0 game and using a 709 game chip.  I tried doing the Set chip and the validator is ON (1).  Also made sure it was set in 9 (0) to 1 indicating that the validator was ON.  Here is what happens: The validator fires up as it should, it lights up as it should, but when you put a bill in (same bills I always use so no difference in terms of old or new currency as they have always worked) it keeps the bill for a bit, then the Coin In light blinks and spits it back.  If there are credits on the machine, then in addition to the Coin In blinking, so too does the Bet 1 and Max buttons blink as well and the bill comes back out.  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance

That blinking can indicate a communications error between the BV and the computer board.
Try running the set chip again.
Worse case it could be the EEPROM chip on the backplane board not saving the settings.
Make sure the BV cable to the backplane is plugged in all the way.

709 is probably a 022 sp chip,  flip switch 1 on the wba,  should change  from 023 to 022

I think you are right Jim, SP709 probably is 022, PSR doesn't say but SP708 is 022.

Although I'm glad you got it working again but I'm wondering why it works now?
I mean, it WAS working before but then stopped right?

Did you at some point flip the #10 dip switch to make the BV stop accepting bills?

I went from a 731 game chip that I bent the prongs on accident to a 709, which was all I had in terms of a game chip.  That’s when it all started.  I suspect if I put the 731 back I may need to turn the #10 back off.  Just guessing though.

You are correct. It’s a different protocol.
