Title: IGT 044 with no sound
Post by: hotlsot on July 04, 2022, 09:08:05 AM
I have an IGT 044 with no sound. Swapped flash boards and 044 boards and it follows this board. I don't have a schematic for this board so I am flying blind. Take a look at the pic of the upper right of the board and you'll notice that many of the components have been removed. I have seen a few other boards with these components removed. Is this the sound section of the board? Would anyone have any interest in repairing this board?
thanks

There's a schematic in the file section.  The removed components are for an auxiliary audio source, so it shouldn't affect game audio.  Not sure why someone removed them, maybe they were causing a problem?  Did the audio work before?  Not sure who can repair them these days.

If this is the board i just looked at yes I removed the auxiliary input components just incase they were the problem they were not. I replaced all the caps that usually cause no sound and checked all the supply voltages they were all good. I tried injecting sound into c3 and c4 after the dac and i did get sound out of the amps. I probed the debug headers for u18 and u40 and got nothing. That was the point i gave up.

Could you please post which caps are usually the cause of loss of sound on these boards please?

That makes sense.  The AUX audio caps on the MML2 boards can cause a lot of audio problems with the 3902 MPU board.

Did you check the +5V and +12V audio power?  If it is missing you'd have no audio out of the pre-amp (U2) or the audio amps (U9/U10).

Yes, this is the same board. these 044 are so damn hard to come by and expensive I was hoping to maybe take a run at it myself, but it sounds like you covered everything. I can't think of anywhere I'd go that you didn't. It's off to the parts pile. Thanks for taking a run at it.

I totally understand and encourage it. I do not know everything so its always a good idea to get a second opinion.
