Title: Wells Gardner LCD replacement for igame ?
Post by: teamclark4 on December 29, 2014, 11:15:49 AM
Does anyone know if i can put a Wells Gardner 17" into an igame upright to replace my broken Kortek 17" ?  I can buy one online from Wells Gardner, and it's for the same 19 pin that i have. But in talking with them it's an enclosed LCD; whereas the Kortek that is on there now has just the panel mounted to the front of the pull-out tray and the power boards and touchscreen controller and main video board are all mounted separately on the inside of the pull-out.

Anyone try to do that before ?

Thanks

There are only 2 ways to mount the LCD.  Attached to the door, or in a whole assembly that just replaces the CRT that was there before. As long as all the hardware is there on the new monitor, there shouldn't be a problem.

What was there before was the whole assembly for the LCD.. They are only sending me the self-contained LCD, not the open-frame.  If the old LCD was in the pull-out tray before, can the new one be mounted in the door with the right hardware; in which case i will remove the old assembly/pull-out tray completely ?

Yes, if you have the right hardware, you can pull the other stuff out.  All the units that I've seen mounted on the door just have the cable with the 19 pin on the end that just plugs into the back of the cabinet.  Sometimes the power supply is velcroed or tiewrapped to the assembly and it is also wired into the 19pin connector.

That sounds right, their LCD had a 19-pin harness; which i could change to an optional 25-pin if i had a 25 pin instead.  I looked at the door to see where it could mount, it looks like the only place to screw into the door is to share the bezel screw holes.  I guess that's where it would connect to then ?

Unless a door mounted LCD needs to have a different door completely to accomodate it; but i hadn't run across that before ..

The door mounted LCD is an aftermarket solution.  All these cabinets were sold with CRT's.  Subsequently Wells Gardner made an LCD that would be door mounted.  There's a bezel and everything that goes with it, and yes, it does use the bezel screw holes.  Kortek and ceronix are just drop-in replacements that sit in the same spot as the CRT.

Gotcha,

So it sounds like i'm ok, except maybe needing the bezel specific to the door mounted Wells Gardner?   Any chance we know if i can use the current standard LCD bezel with the Wells Gardner or if i need specifically the "wells gardner" version because of where the mounting holes are or some other difference ?

Thanks for the good info..   :thank_you:

Most likely, you will need the Wells Gardner one, because they are usually "flat" and the other ones have a beveled shape to it and are a bit deeper than the WG one.

Ok, thanks again for the great information..   :hail:

It has helped me get a better idea of the available options, as it's been difficult to track down this LCD replacement other then the $500 new ceronix drop-in.
