Hello,

The counting unit compartment. Top left : the connecting with tube topper. In the middle :  the two connectors of the counting unit, and on the right : the connection to the candle.

Dismounting of topper support. To change the fluorescent tube F8T5 / CW we have to unscrew 4 screws at the corners.

The tube is confined in this small space, wich makes tube supports very hot and the plastic has become brittle with time.

Besides when I started to change the tube there is a socket that has been broken into small pieces.

I cleaned the right side ... impressive the amount of dirt ...

The topper support in brushed steel, also very dirty.

The same after  cleaning.

Hello,

In the meantime I printed and laminated a Bally badge to put in place of the name insert.

I also repaired  the track with a strap. There were already signs of a previous repair.

I still had one last part to clean ... the arm. It's still a fairly rusty element because it is in contact with the skin and therefore sweating

To disassemble, the long bolt needs to be unscrewed that helds  the actuating fork arm.

After removing the bolt, we can draw the arm and it comes out of its housing.

Protection cup can be removed without any problem.

The axis is not damaged, it will just be cleaned.

After a big cleaning.

Hello,

My order arrived :
-   B25-925 : hopper step-up coil
-   FE-33-2600 : coin diverter coil
-   M-37-2700 : coin lock-out coil

I ordered the SP-199-15 spring for the coin diverter. Added to this, two bulbs #455 flasher for candle and a forty bulb #44  not to put only new in the counting unit.

For the coin lock-out, that was the spring that was missing. The new one, with a different reference, works perfectly.

Once reassembly ended.

Reassembling the step-up coil hopper.

Hello,

Review of the restoration of this machine.

Theoretically, with the order of the  spare parts , I had got everything to be able to restart the machine, except the override coil, but I could do without it.

I spent long days to test the machine. The machine still does not work.

I blown at least 30 fuses on the 50 volt line. I de-soldering all coils and the  fuse still burns ... I finally found where it came from. :duh:

The worst is that I had before my eyes with  the 7th picture of my post, but I had not paid attention because it seemed to be ok with the machine ... and what shows this 7th picture ???

It is a hopper ... but with a 929-1 number written on it ... and what is my machine ??? ? It's a 873 ... .so it can not work ... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

The 929 is a Bally Continental.

So I'm waiting for a solution ...

I have a quarter EM machine Bally's from the 60's and the coins just drop through to the cup inside, they don't activate the machine for play.

Actually, that shouldn't be a Bally sticker.  It should show the denomination of the machine.  In your case it would be "25" based on the payback shown on the glass.

Hello,

I put the hopper problem on hold  and I kept on the aesthetic aspect.

I repaired the topper bracket and ordered fluorescent tube brackets in order to replace the broken bracket.

I also changed the connector terminals, as well as one of the wires that had become brittle with the hours passed under the fluorescent tube.

On the other side, the connection terminals have also been changed because they have become brittle, but the tube support was still perfect  without any cracks, so I have not changed it.

The assembly is ready to be reassembled in the brushed steel support.

The plate with the tube is held with 4 screws. The threaded rods will serve to hold the support.

The support once in place. The connection is made on the left with crimp outlets.

In rereading the post, I have just realized that I had not even posted an overall picture of the machine. It's done !

Hello,

I had a few small jobs to do on this door, I removed it from the machine because it is easier to work.

I had to replace one of the ballast situated in the door. It was electrically powering one of the fluorescent tubes of the lower part of the door.

This ballast had been removed during the complete restoration of the machine and I had not restored it. Except that I need the fixing screws ...

And here I thank myself, I am searching  the box where I put all the parts coming from this 873, including those of the hopper, and what am I finding ?... the small bag with the screws of the ballast ...

The new ballast set up

It is then necessary to disassemble the support plate of the window at the bottom of the door, which gives access to the wiring terminals of the fluorescent tubes.

During disassembly, I had spotted each wire with tape and a number that corresponds to the position on the terminal block.

No picture of the assembly but it is visible at this link in the post because this subject has already been discussed.

Bye

Hello,

After having bought the Bally 809 Multiplier to a friend, I looked to what had been done in the Bally electromechanical machines, and inevitably the classic pair is 809 and the ... ... ..the ...... ..873 !! !

The 809 Multiplier, as its name suggests, can multiply gains and is called a 5 credits machine. So you can play 1 to 5 coins, and each time it multiplies the gain.

The 873 is also a 5 credits one, but it is a 5-line. You can play 1 to 5 coins, or 1 coin per line.

Below the 873 which is on the left is for me, and the 809 which is on the right is going to go back to the North of France for a friend.

I owe this discovery to Mr Zpeakabonk, a big thank you to him !!!

As announced at the time of the sale, it is in its "own juice". It operates in 110 V, but has the hopper, mechanical coin and the wiring seems whole and it did not seem to have been cannibalized. Small feature, it comes straight from Japan !

The glass are in fairly good condition, there is a small scratch in the lower right, but I should succeed in recovering it. Which suffered the most during those years, it was the chrome. We will see what will be possible to get back with Belgom Chrome.

I'm pretty happy to have met this couple 809 / 873, even if it is far from being clean and functional, I will see the extent of the work to be done when I really put my hands in it.

Let's go, photo shoot, I have left in the original size so that the specialists give me their opinion on possible "anomalies", though I've already identified a few, just by taking photos.

We can see the scratch on the lower right, but luckily the glass was not affected. The topper is missing.

The top glass with the 3 Seven aligned payments, the Jackpot ($ 750) when you play 5 coins.

The middle glass and 5 lines represented, with the secondary payments on the right side.

The bottom glass with the scratch on the right. Visible also on the left, but less obvious.

The mechanics of the 3 reel. In the bottom left of the first reel and above the propeller, we can see a strand from 6 to 8 wire surrounded by electrical tape, here is a possible first change we'll have to check.

The hopper.

The reel launching mechanism. It does not make too much account, but there is a large quantity of grease everywhere.

Another view of the propeller mechanism.

The inside of the door at the level of the reel.

What a miracle !,  I have a double keys reset !!!
By cons, 2nd anomaly. I noticed the little piece of paper that served of shim at the coil of the coin diverter. In this way, the coins are bound to the hopper, so it cannot be overfull ..., strange.... besides the bottom left contact switch no longer has its metal rod to count coins.

Well, not very young this 873. It was born in October 24, 1973.

The bottom of the box behind the hopper is relatively clean, and there is no apparent trace of big changes.

I suspected its source, now there is no doubt !!!

The bell, which rings only from a certain payment, which I would find out later which one.
Below the system that releases the arm when a coin is inserted.

Small information on wiring circuits.

The wiper plate assembly. There is a welded wire on the first wiper plate, I do not know if this is normal.

Wiper plates again, notched ratchet wheels filled with grease. I think this grease is not helpful. We can see again the cable strand with electrical tape.

Small set of coils behind the third wiper plate.

The continuation in the next episode !

Man these are my absolute favorite machines out there, a little place called El Cholo an old mexican restaurant on the north end of the strip had a row of these in there I begged my dad to play them everytime we ate there just so I could hear the mechanical parts of it operate and watch the fruit symbols.
