How do I connect new RGB Polygon Topper ?
« on: December 13, 2018, 06:08:14 PM »

I just received the RGB Polygon Topper I ordered from Suzohapp. It didn't come with any instructions or documentation and I'm not sure how to connect it. I want to install it on my S2000 Game King. The only connection seems to be an 8-pin connector. Should it be plugged into netplex  in the top box ? There is no separate connector for the tower light.

Where can I find a wiring harness extension, as the one which comes with it is too short ?

Polygon toppers were meant to go on an AVP machine.  You need to make up a harness to connect it to an S2000 or Gameking.  The only thing you really need to do is apply power and connect the candle.  The USB connection does not work on the older platforms.

What's the operating voltage for this polygon topper for the lights ? 12vdc, 24vdc ?

This topper is non-usb

Mine is connected to both +12v & +24v off the netplex distribution board.  You'll have to fabricate an adapter cable.   Here's a manual from Happ that shows the pinouts of the topper on page three.

Do you have the rest of the guts for that topper? Lights LEDs etc.

The first photo is fully assembled. The 2nd photo is just the back half. Everything is there.

I'm aware it's not intended for the S2000 and all I can do is just connect the lights. Thanks for the manual. It's just what I needed. Don't know why it didn't come with one.

Yeah I just noticed that.  You are missing the LED backlight panel with the heasinks and whatnot.  The topper uses +24 volt (Orange wire) and +5 (volts red wire).  You can connect to the topbox.  There's a 4 pin molex connector that supplies both of those.  Here's a photo of my 4 pin connector for power.  The other end is affixed to the topper in the form of a 16 pin molex connector that mates with the connector on your photo.  The other wires are for the candle.

I am a little confused. On close examination I see 12vdc printed on the controller board at the power connection. The tower lights are also 12vdc. Also, the manual in previous message says powered by 12vdc.

I was wrong.  12volts for the red wire, 24 volts for the orange wire. You may have a different version of the topper.  This is what my topper looks like when I remove the top cover.  Here are also pictures of the cable I made to make it work on my Gameking.

This is a plug N play harness if you can find one. The red wire is +12V.  The 24V orange wire powers the backlighting components that are missing. Thus your plexi will not be illuminated.
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

My plexi is illuminated by a lighting panel directly behind it. It is different than yours. In the photo you can see four 16-pin connectors that power it the outer ring and in the center bottom a 2 pin connector for the light panel (back light).

Ok cool. Never seen that before. So maybe the 24V is not even needed.

That also explains why the inside isn't painted white to reflect light.

Much better design, probably generates very little heat.

Well . . . looks like I wasted my money. I made a wiring harness for the topper in order to supply power, then bench tested it. The bezel works great but there is no backlight. The LED back lighting panel doesn't work. I confirmed correct voltage and polarity to the panel. It's not a control board issue as the back light is powered direct. Guess I'll call Suzohapp on Monday and see what they will do.

Solved.  I applied 24vdc and the panel lights up. 12vdc is too low.

One thing I wanted to add. In order to change the light/color programs, you must open up the topper to access the inside pc board where the programming buttons are located. I suppose this is to make it tamper proof. Casinos can't have players changing the program. I made some modifications to make this easier based on an earlier post. I thank the person who thought of this.

What I did was drill holes in the back of the housing and mount 2 push button momentary switches. I then attached leads to the pc board and wired these switches in parallel to each of the 2 switches on the board. Now I can just reach behind the topper for the buttons to change mode or color programs.
