Title: Why does my bill validator keep spitting out the bills???
Post by: emelie on August 17, 2014, 09:15:03 AM
I am soooo frustrated and you guys have always helped me in the past so here it goes. The bill validator in my I Dream of Genie slot used to take only the "old" style of bills. Then all of a sudden it didn't light up anymore and wouldn't work. I saw a youtube video on how to take it out and put it back in so that's what I did and now it lights up and takes the bills. But after it takes the bills it makes the sound like it's doing something but then spits it back out. Please help and I'm not machine saavy lol. Thanks in advance :)

How many credits do you have on the machine? Or I guess a better question would be, what is the dollar value of the credits currently on the machine and what is the limit set at? Generally if the light comes on and it won't accept the bill it's because the added credits would exceed the set limit, commonly $3000. If you try a $1 and it kicks it you may have a different issue, but there again, depending on your answer to the previous questions.

I only have 2000 credits and it's a nickle machine so whatever that is (i can't do math lol). A $1 bill is what I keep trying (that's all I have on me at the moment)

You may have dirty optics on the BV head. You already know how to remove the transport so if you look at the top of the head you will see a small black lever toward the front edge on either side. Gently push/pull those toward the front edge of the transport to release the head cover and it will swing upwards, hinged at the back. Now use a qtip dampened with glass cleaner to clean the 3 metal contacts and the three glass "eyes" you will find inside. Close that lid, reinsert the transport into the machine and see if it works. It isn't necessary to shut the machine off to do this, but do it anyway

FYI, A lot of B/V's won't take $1.00 bills (singles) $5.00 is the smallest for many.

I respectfully disagree with this.  Unless the validator has been set up by DIP switch or in the game software to not accept $1 bills, there's no reason why it wouldn't accept them.  Some validators are set up this way (I think New Jersey casinos are set up that way), but I think it's too broad of a statement to say that "a lot" of validators won't take $1 bills.

emelie, if the validator accepted $1 bills in the past, it will continue to do so.

When it rejects the bill, is it spitting it out immediately, or is there a delay while the bill is held in the validator for a second or two, then rejected?

I'd also try removing the cash can, re-seating the assembly, then re-installing the cash can to make sure everything is seated properly.

I would do what knagl says.  You can also open the door go into the diagnostics by pushing the little white button on the mpu tray and selecting the diagnostics for the DBV, then put bills to see if the dbv will correctly identify it, if that works, then your validator is having issues stacking the bills which would point to an issue with the cash can or the transport's ability to stack the bills.
