Title: stubborn game is not linked error
Post by: puckhead on September 19, 2017, 04:53:53 PM
cant get past a game is not linked error when setting up  a machine, never saw this error before. 1270 board  the back story is:

was a working game, but coin battery would go dead in about 2-3 weeks.   swapped cpu with another, same problem.  let it simmer for the summer . finally got around to putting in a backboard from another game, and now get the game is not linked error. tried all sorts of crap to get around it, no good.  the chips are 363's. has a varta on the board, with a full charge.  same varta that worked when the coin battery was going dead.

whats next?

thanks

Sounds like SAS settings are wrong. A clear and key should solve it. On the 1270 board you'll need clear 224 and key 45

i clear it with a 224.  when i put the game chip back in,  i get the ram error. turn the key till i get the press the button 2-3 secs. hold for at least 5, close the door and wait. call attendant. turn the key once and i get the game not linked error. directs me back to press the white button 2-3 secs. lather, rinse, repeat.  it wont go away.   i tried to put the key chip( 45)  in anyway, didnt work.

thanks

What SB chip is in this game? The Game not linked error usually points to a problem with the SG chips. SG000363 are excellent for 50x MPUs with most games but there are better choices for the 1270x MPU. You said it was working before. Be sure the SG chips are in the right slot GME 1 & 2 with no broken or bent pins. A pic would be great!

i was just about to post.  i changed the stepper chip from a 578 to a 928, and its almost up and running.got thru all the set ups,  now i get a 7 segment display mismatch.  if i test that, it tests ok, and i did a config netplex devices, still get that error. also, an occasional bill stacker door open, even though the switch is jumped.

thanks

The 7 seg display mismatch can only be changed with a key chip or clear & key. It's stored on the motherboard that you swapped from another machine. Obviously one machine has a 5-5-2 & the other a 6-6-3 display. The SG 363 chips should work but still not optimal. You should use SG523 or 598 with that enhanced MPU.
