Title: 6000 Possibly bad MPU?
Post by: ThirdGenAmusement on December 24, 2020, 03:10:14 PM
Hello,

I have a 6000 I am looking to repair.  No history on it.  When powered on, there are no readouts.  The machine does do the initial "copyright bally gaming etc etc".  Only things that show an indication of life is the bet one, bet max, and credit accepted lights flash.  Also the led on the mpu does a slow flash.

All the chips look to be arranged and inserted correctly.  There were 2 clear chips at the bottom of the cabinet and the legs are pretty gnarly but they were not in any protection so not sure if the damage to the clear chips happened by someone who tried to use them or just from being slid around in the cabinet.

From the research I have done it leads me to believe that the MPU is bad.  I dont think its a bad power supply since the speech portion works at start up.  The battery is dead, nearly completely, but even with a dead battery there should be an error code displayed shouldn't there?   Can anyone confirm the symptoms above?

Update:

Power supply checks out good as far as I can tell from a multimeter.

I checked out the board further and discovered both the U28 and U43 chips are missing.  No wonder it is not responsive.   lol.  Bad thing is they are no where to be found.

I will need to get some clear chips but am curious if anyone has or can burn a new set of game chips?  This is a 99 bottles of beer frenzy slot.

I think you should install some leave in easy clear chips first. They double as the maintenance and supervisory chips for the board. The game chips won't work unless U28 and U43 are populated.
Attached are easy clear instructions.
Without U28 and U43 the low battery error won't be displayed, you should replace the battery if it reads low with a meter.

Thank you Badbaud.  Appreciate the reply and instructions.  I will contact the company that was on the instructions and see about getting the easy clear chips or if anyone on here sells them shoot me a pm.  I am headed to Batteries Plus for a battery.  Only batteries I have are the short chubby batteries with the flanges.

Used EZ clear chips and machine gets to the point of displaying errors.  Will start a new thread.
