Title: IGT S+ 21 code
Post by: B-52BadByron on March 24, 2021, 02:43:12 PM
I have an IGT S+, I deactivated the hopper payout. The game plays fine but after sitting idle for several hours the machine shows a code 21.  I just turn the machine off and then back on and the 21 code disappears.  Does anyone know what causes this problem and how to fix the problem?

It could be your coin in optics. They may be going bad if the 21 code persists.

Thanks, I will look into that.

Or a breaking ground wire on the harness.
Lazy slot techs pulled off the harness by the wires all the time when clearing coin-in jams on the coin comparitor.
They unknowingly break the metal stranded wire inside of the wiring cover and it's usually the black ground wire under the yellow wire on the bottom of the Molex connector.
Simply remove the harness and use a multi-meter to check for continuity from both ends of the wires to find the break.
You will have to move each wire from side to side while watching the multimeter.
or
Get a new harness
or
Get a new coin-in optics board.
You have to single out the problem and repair or replace as needed.

With the 21 code, I have put in a different coin validator, a new harness to the coin validator.  When I start the machine the display quickly shows the credits, the bill validator light illuminates for a second, then I hear a click and the 21 code appears.

It's the optics board under the coin comparitor that is giving the 21 code (or it's harness)  There is a tiny white button on the left bottom corner of it, push it and see if it gives you a credit.  You may need to clean the 3 sensors inside it with q-tips damp with water only.

White rectangle button under the brown connector on the left.

Got it thanks sooo much.  I'll post how things go on the code 21.

Yes...personally I'd like to see if it's persistent or heat related....especially if you turn ON/OFF the machine at night or leave it on 24/7.

Do the coin in optics test, that will tell you what is going on, all three should be showing a "1" ,  10_1,11_1 and 12_1,  wiggle the pin connector while watching the number, usually a compressed connection ( same as on the motherboard connector).

Hope this helps
