Title: Bally Black and White Jackpot Quick Hits
Post by: kmarrocco on April 24, 2024, 07:06:33 PM
Hello,
I recently picked up a Bally Black and White Jackpot Quick Hits machine.  There seems to be a problem with the display.  But when I hook up an external monitor I can see that I am getting an NVRAM error.   Can you please help me understand what to check/test?   Also, any ideas on common display problems?   I am hoping that I won't need to buy a complete replacement display.   Thank you.

NVRAM you need to replace button cell battery inside the mpu.  As far as the monitor is concerned, do you get a "no signal" message or while booting if you use a bright flashlight can you see text on the monitor faintly?  These monitors usually need the A/D board re-capped/replaced or the inverter needs to be replaced.  The CFL backlights are usually the last spot to troubleshoot.

Thank you for the response.   I did already replace both button cells but I can check to see if there could be another one I may have missed.

Regarding the screen, I do not get a no signal message.   I will try the bright light test.

The nvram error will not go away until you perform a clear procedure, you will need a clear card.  There's also a battery on the backpane right around the area where the mpu connects to it.  If you pull the mpu out, you should be able to see it between the 2 connectors.

Thank you for the information.   The battery on the backplane had 0.5V on it.  I have replaced it and now need to look to get a clear card.

Which OS card is in machine?  That will tell which clear card you need.

I ran the clear procedure and now I am working through 2 issues.

1.  There is no upper display, it doesn't seem to be working.  I have tried a new inverter board in it with no luck.  Seems I may need to find a replacement for a Wells Gardner WGF1590-MSPS72E.  If anyone has one or an inexpensive alternative, please let me know.

2.  With an external monitor setup, I am still trying to configure/setup the machine to confirm there are no other major problems.  I get to a point where the reels spin continuously and the display says call attendant.  I am trying to press the white test button to get into the setup menu, but it does not seem to do anything.  Am I doing something wrong?

Does the open door "M" message display on the bottom right of the monitor (there might be more than just M, but that is the important one).  Getting just the Call Attendant message means there is not door opened, maybe the main door switch is jumpered?

Thanks for the reply.  Apparently I was not waiting long enough.  As I was taking a picture of the call attendant screen and compressing it, the message switched to prompts to setup the machine.   See attached.

So it seems that I am ok now there.  I just need the actual touch screen to work now.  I have dropped it off with a local shop in hopes that they can repair it.   Fingers crossed...
