Title: Bally 5500 triple 7s where to start
Post by: ffbri on April 11, 2022, 02:46:58 PM
Just purchased a Bally 5500 triple sevens date 1/94 model s63m3wt-10 s940100087 tower lights not working, digital display not working, light on coin comparator orange, reels don't reset, test light flashes, bill acceptor resets when turned on, flourescents work. Previous owner "worked perfectly until jackpot" I replaced power supply PT-65b, tried reset with test and pseodo-coin depressed and starting with j10 jumper connected and then on 1 pin. Before I completely bugger this thing up, does anyone have suggestions? I have limited electric background and a voltage meter, and have time (retired firefighter). I realize education costs, so any help, is greatly appreciated

The power supply is behind the coin hopper and it appears to be dead as you have nothing on the display.

Didn't realize you have two post going. Just work with one post. Make sure the battery is 3.6 volt and make sur MPU tray is into the plastic guides on each side and make sure its fully seated into the backplane. After you did the clear , did the reels calibrate and then "50" appeared on the display? Look for bent pins on MPU edge connector

Thanks sorry about the two posts, I installed a new power source and wheels did nothing and I get no display, same as old power source, I checked every wire I can touch and all look ok, no light above coin acceptor, coin comparator is orange, should it be green? no lights on hopper and can't move with buttons. lights on buttons also don't work? Battery is at 3.58 should I try and change them again? pins look good and MPU slides in and out smoothly. Thanks, Brian

Battery is fine and has nothing to do with the display not working. Sounds like there is something still wrong with the power supply. Take it out and check the connections inside where you replaced the module.

but wait there's more!! Checked all leads to power supply-good, with proper voltage coming out of the leads. test light stays solid instead of blinking after taking off all chips and reseating. when display does come on once in a while, like a short, with random displays sometimes all is lit sometimes, sometimes just a 9 in first window ? test light starts blinking again when display shows anything. lights flash and make a noise on hopper when I turn power off. still no green light on coin comparator. I'm thinking trying to replace chips, or should i look at changing the board?

Are you sure the MPU is fully seated as they are a tight fight.

If the red light on the MPU is flashing or steady, most likely a problem with the board. Post a picture of the board.

Are the batteries in the holder correctly so the polarity is correct? Other than that you may want to send it to K-Lar slot service. Alan is his name and his handle here on NLG is Badbaud. He has a test unit and does repairs on the boards.
