Title: Bally 847 Continental owners
Post by: farthingbowl on November 14, 2015, 03:39:34 AM
Hello,

An 847 continental owners here ? I just got one in and its not working as it should be...of course..  :Scratch-Head:  the machine is in decent condition, all parts seem to be original and marked "847" I repaired a super line before, but it seems this one is a bit more complicated. I was wondering if any one with a good running machine could help me out with some pictures for the switch positions etc.

Tim,
Which switches do you need?  The one I have as a replay feature in it, so some settings might be different.

When it comes to the switches, I find that the reel mach switches by the clock are pretty much standard. The only others that would possibly be an issue would  be the ones on the cam shaft from the motor in the back of the head. Where I start, is to clean all the switches with a good contact cleaner and a nylon brush. Then I check for their connections, either make or break or both in some combinations. The hopper as well as I have found, are pretty much standard. I just find with a project machine, this is what works best for me. If I try to take a short cut and jump to where I think the problem is, I either fix it and realize a new problem, or not too often, I get lucky and it works. But cleaning and adjusting the switches, I then know what I am working with.

Hi all,

Did a bit of work on the machine and it's comming to life again. hopper works, always nice when you hear it spin for the first time !

But....

The machine works fine ona a 1 coin, but as soon as you want to play multiple coins it does not reset anymore, so when you put in two coins it works only 1 time including payout, after the next coin it does not go back to start, but stays in the 2 (or more) coin mode and goes into a sort of free play, no coins needed anymore and no payouts

on the picture - right bottom is the odds unit, when i manually reset this the machine works again.

You might have a switch that is opening on the reset early. Make sure that the switches dont open early and only when the rod opens them at the end.

There should be a switch operated by the odds disc and assy, which closes after the odds steps one time.  This is to tell the machine to reset the odds unit on next game.  If it doesn't close, then the odds disc will not know that it is supposed to reset.  Also the odds reset relay should be what resets the odds reset solenoid.  Find the relay and manually close it to see if it does reset odds unit.

Hello All,

After following the wires and understanding how the system operates i discovered that the coil which resets the odds unit was broken, as the machine worked by resetting it manually that was the problem, got a new coil in the mail today as Iam a beginner I dont have many spare parts yet, but iam pretty sure thet will be different in some years time) just placed the new coil and the machine works perfect ! really great feeling, another Bally EM back in service. replaced 38 small light bulbs as well as most of them were broken so altogether spend about 20 euros, of which half was postage. PROBLEM SOLVED ! many thanks for the advice and help

 :thank_you:

Congrats ... might want to consider replacing the bulbs with LED lamps. They dont get hot and will save the paint on the backglass along with lowering cost on juice. Even tho I know that the most important issue is to save the glass.
