Model: MV4
Symptom: Stuck on crosshatch

Board had a coin cell mod already done but the 470 ohm resistor wasn't removed.

Removed the 470 ohm resistor and tested. No audio. Recapped the audio section and no audio, but now there was normal audio hiss at full volume. Replaced bad YM2610 and tested. Board would boot slot 1 but not any cartridges in the other 3 slots. Cleaned the top board and repaired a broken trace for the clock signal to the 74LS174 that latched the slot selection via the 74LS138. Installed a customer requested UniBIOS 4.0 chip. Tested.

Model: MV2
Symptom: Palette RAM errors

Board had attempted repair damage and paste flux smeared all over the 2 RAMs.

Removed 2 Palette RAMs, cleaned up the flux, removed damaged sections of traces that were shorting, installed three Kynar jumpers to patch the traces, and installed sockets. Installed customer supplied Palette RAM. Text color was fixed, but the RAM still was showing as bad. Replaced bad NEO-B0 custom chip to fix the Palette RAM error. Installed a coin cell battery kit and tested. Player 1 left and right controls were stuck on. Replaced a bad resistor/capacitor filter network and tested.

Symptom: Backup RAM B240 Error and Stuck on green errors.

Board had a clipped component lead under the fishpaper and foam insulation under the battery section causing the error. Removed the lead, removed the battery, removed the 470 ohm resistor. Cleaned under the battery and installed a coin cell battery holder. Removed a short between two caps while removing them. Recapped the audio section, including caps previously replaced by a prior tech. Tested the board.

Model: MV4
Symptom: Crosshatch of death (Will not boot cartridges)

Cleaned battery damaged area of the PCB and tested the usual traces for damage - all were good. The 2 74ALS245 data latches for the cartridge data had only one with a working /Enable pin. Replaced PRO-C0 IC, still dead. Found a corroded BIOS socket, replaced that and noticed a green pin on the 74ALS08 next to it. Removed and socketed that IC and patched a corrosion damaged trace under it. Board would boot cartridges but the colors and sounds were incorrect, low audio, and slot 2 had graphics issues. Installed a coin cell kit and audio cap kit. Patched a corroded trace between a 74LS273 and a ladder DAC resistor in the blue output circuit to fix the color issues. The rest of the issues were on the top board.

Cleaned the top PCB. Removed the hardened foam and fishpaper from under the PCB and patched a dead trace for Slot 2 causing lines in graphics. Patched another traces to address the remaining lines issue for slot 2. Patched a bad trace to the slot for the address lines to the graphics ROMs to fix an issue with incorrect graphics data being seen. Patched a dead trace to fix the audio samples playback corruption issue for all slots. Tested. Slot 1 had no audio. Patched a dead trace to the /Enable line of the 74LS246 latching the address data for the sound ROM. Tested. Patched a dead trace to the 74LS244 buffering an address line to the Sound ROM. Tested. All issues resolved.
