809-5ZF pays 4 coin amount (almost) on 3 coins in
« on: May 13, 2022, 12:57:30 PM »
Having a payout issue with a 809-5ZF I picked up about 2 weeks ago.
All pays are correct except for coin 3 payouts, which payout close to the coin 4 amount (usually off by a coin or 2). With 4 coins in, it pays out the correct amount, as does 1,2, and 5 coins in.
I thought maybe it was a multiplier issue, but if I lift the wire to the x4 multiplier, it still over pays to close to the coin 4 pay with 3 coins in.
I've also looked at the reel wiper boards thinking that might be where the problem is and found some sketchy wiring, but from the schematic I'm using, those wires have to do with the hopper agitator on handle pull. (which works fine).
I've gone through the payboard maintenance, spring tension, rubber stop replacement etc.
I can't find the schematic and maybe it's unobtainable. Bally index says its 1321, I've been referencing the schematic for a 5ZX which is a 50 cent machine (mine is a nickle machine), but they're both 809 lightnings.
I've also got 2 wires cut and taped under the payout board, those look to go to the jackpot relay to trip the machine until attendant resets, so I'm assuming they were cut so the machine doesn't trip on a jackpot (mine doesn't).
Sorry for the long winded post, this one really has me stumped. I've got everything else working correctly on this machine, hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.

A photo of the machine and the odds step up unit.
Possibly the odds unit is misaligned causing higher pays on lower payout combinations.

Possibly the odds unit is misaligned causing higher pays on lower payout combinations.

the w-1090-2 wiper diagram in the 809-b files is probably the same, so check the wiper that is hitting the 38-3 and 10-1 rivets.

other possibility is the 3x multiplier unit is not stepping correctly or the wipers on it are cruddy and not passing thru 1/3 of the step-up pulses to the payout counter step-up coil.

if you can see/hear the 3x unit during payout, it should be stepping at a regular cadence assuming coins are coming out at a regular rate.  If that seems ok, then suspect the wipers on the unit.

Problem is fixed. Ended up being a bad solder connection on the odds unit spaghetti wiring from the wire terminals to the back side of the rivets.
Thanks for the help in getting me to the right area to help solve the issue. Much appreciated!
