Title: Slot machine DOOR - not closing or latching? Look no further...
Post by: shortrackskater on September 24, 2014, 10:20:20 AM
I'm starting a thread to post solutions for closing/latching your slot machine door.
I'm sure others have experienced this before. I've had two machines who's doors would close and not latch or were very hard to latch. My Fortune one key finally BROKE off in the lock since it took so much pushing and hard turning of the key to latch the thing. I'm hoping everyone can post THEIR particular issues and/or solutions HERE.

If your door has trouble latching or closing, for starters, check ALL the screws on the frame and the door itself. It's likely they're loose. Slots go through a beating. They get moved around at the casino, then after their life on the floor, they get loaded in trucks and moved around again. Screws come loose and doors droop.
I've gently pulled up on some of my doors up as I tighten the screws. Once the door is stable, then I go ahead and tighten the rest.

...and I will reply first!
My ancient Bally Video TwentyOne door had never ever latched. I put on a replacement lock (from Foxslots!) - the lock was fine, the latch moved properly and the cam was at the proper angle. The key would turn halfway and stop but I could never remove the key. I had fiddled with the angles of the "tab frame" on the right side and everything was meshing in, but the stupid key would not turn fully. I've left it that way for three years. Finally last night I had an idea. I had loosened the tab frame before (I'm sure it has a proper name) and pushed it in/out without success. This time I left it loose. I shut the door and it latched and I could remove the key!
So I just tightened each screw slightly to keep the frame in proper position, making sure the door closed each time. After tightening the last screw - the door was good! I can take the key out now. I'm a little obsessive/compulsive and I LIKE my doors to work 100%.

The S2000 has a couple issues that hinder door closing properly with the primary one being a weak cabinet structure allowing the door to sag. Usually lifting up on the door while closing solves it. Another possibility is the piano hinge wears out and you get the same problem with the same solution. I've also seen where the latching slide on the door can get deformed and make it hard to close the door properly but on the same note, if the pin grommets that the slide rolls on are gone or worn out it can be very difficult to slide the latch down into place. I'm sure there are other things but I think these are the common ones and the biggest offender is the weak cabinet frames. If the coin tray or cover plate isn't installed I'm lucky if I can get the door to shut at all.
