Title: Converting a BB2 back to NXT1
Post by: bpracer on March 17, 2017, 05:38:04 AM
I’m looking at converting a BB2 backwards to use an NXT-1 CPU for the SSOS games that will not play on a NXT-2.

Any input if I’m missing something here is appreciated.

#1 – Button Panel.  I will need to install the wiring harness for the button deck and change the OLED back to a standard deck.  Looking at adding the extra spin button deck along with the correct hardware.

#2 – TSE TSE Fly Board.   Looking at the wiring it appears that the BB2 is wired for the Top Box/Aux Logic (connector A on the BB1) and also switched inputs (connector F on the BB1) but the Interface I/O (connector B on the BB1) appears to be a different on the BB2.  I should be able to use a BB1 harness plugging in to J21 on the backplane and run this to the TSE board as I don’t believe J21 is being used for anything on the BB2?  The TSE will also work for a top box cheater for games like Time machine.

#3 – I will add an A/B switch for easy changing between the NXT-1 with the Fly board and the NXT-2 CPU top monitor connection for easy switching back to NXT-2 at times.  The A/B switch must interfere with the communication of the top monitor with the NXT-2 cpu, as long as I move the cable between the TSE and the NXT-2 cpu everything works.

#4 – Main Screen Monitor – The NXT-2 uses the DVI and the NXT-1 uses the VGA so I will need to add a VGA cable for NXT-1.

I already have a 22-inch top box on a BB1 and the image looks fine, I understand the lower screen may look slightly stretched but I’m not too worried about this.

O.K., is there anything I’m missing?

I can confirm that SSOS games will load and play on the BB2 cabinet using a NXT-1 CPU (Blue Board confirmed) and non-OLED button decks.
