Title: Alpha S9000 Errors
Post by: PinJim on October 13, 2022, 09:28:15 AM
Hello,
My 5-reel S9000 was sitting idle today, and suddenly the reels started turning and I got the "Call Attendant" error on the top monitor. I went into diagnostics and had all of the following errors:

Mechanical Reels Disconnected
Mechanical Reels Not Configured
Lamp Projector Disconnected
7-Segment LEDs Disconnected
Bezel Disconnected

Odd that it happened randomly. Anyone know where to start troubleshooting this error?

Thanks in advance!!

I should note - I powered the machine down and rebooted it, and things are back to normal. But I'd like to diagnose / fix the error so it doesn't occur down the road....

Check your batteries on the cpu board and the backplane. Could be a sign that they are getting low. You will have to clear and set it up after a battery change.

Gotcha, sounds like I need a clear card. I assume the process for this is similar to a Williams / Konami clear? Get a clear card, put it in the machine, do the clear, then re-install the game card and re-set up the machine?

I've read that the Bally Alpha clear cards are OS-specific. How do I find out the OS version I have? Or maybe I'm off base on this one.

And I guess I need to figure out how many batteries I need, and what type.

Very similar. Pull out the OS card when the machine is powered off. It should be numbered. 31x OS uses 312 clear, 32x OS uses 320 clear,
33x or 34x OS uses 335 clear. I have them if needed. PM me.

I had that issue with a flaky usb cable, the one from the mpu to the reel backplane.

Following up on my own post.

I pulled both power supplies and the CPU board since they were caked with dust. Cleaned each of them thoroughly. Both fans on the 24V supply were dead, and one fan on the 5V/12V supply was dead. Replaced the three dead fans. The fans on the CPU are all working. Also replaced all three batteries (two on the CPU and one on the backplane).

I followed that up with a clear. Machine is back up and running, every single fan is working. We shall see if all of that fixes my reset issue. The amount of dust on the CPU was crazy, so possibly that was contributing. I guess if it happens again, I’ll need to start replacing power supplies or maybe just replace all of the caps on them…..

Last night I got bored and pulled each reel strip, cleaned them of dirt and glue, then applied new double sided tape. I also added double sided tape to the cross members. While it did reduce the reel noise, not 100%. Still, better though. The larger benefit is looks, man did it brighten things up!
