Title: Door optics LED
Post by: pinballpaul on April 16, 2019, 01:59:26 PM
I have an M-slot that the door LED has no output (IR).  I checked it in another machine and it was fine.  Where does the power for the LED come from?

Pulsed door optics on the M is created by U53 pin 13, there is a 180 Ohm 1/2W resistor at R1 that provides power to the emitter (red lead).
The other side of the emitter should be pulsed (black).
Unplug the emitter and check the plug it plugged into and measure the pins with a meter.
If you see no pulsed DC voltage then there could be a open connection, or R1 is open.
If you have a 390 Ohm 1/2w resistor and a visible red or other color LED you can put the cathode of the LED in the pulsed pin and the anode in series with the resistor into the red) DC powered lead.
This way you can see the visible LED pulsing if both sides of the door optic connector has power.

Thanks,  I'll have to go visit my customer and check it.

There seems to be some confusion.  This is a M+ slot. R-1 is 4.7k and there's no U-53.
