I was IGT S+ and WMS Reel, however, it's not necessary now that I was promoted to global mod.  In fact, I'd prefer not to have my name listed on those to save me from random "how do I fix..." PMs.

Joey,

I have found your site to be invaluable to me since I joined. I would do anything to help the site maintain the high quality it currently has, BUT I don't have a clue what the requirements of a moderator are, as I don't claim to be the brightest bulb in the pack. If you have the time the 50¢ explanation  would be great.

Thanks Lindsay

 How to Moderate

 Modifying Posts
Often posts are modified. Usually a forum will give permission for all members to edit the posts that they made, and moderators will be able to edit everyone's posts including their own.

There are two methods of editing a post, the "normal edit" directs you to a posting page where you can edit the post. "Quick Edit" allows you to edit the post inline, but you will not see the buttons for automatically placing Bulletin Board Code in your posts and will need to manually enter the bulletin board code in your posts.

 Normal Edit
To modify a Post or thread, click on the button that says "Modify". Make any necessary changes and then click "Save".
 Quick Edit
You can perform a quick edit without refreshing the page by clicking on the pencil on paper icon located at the right of every post. This will popup the post box, once you click on the "Save" button you will see the change instantly.

 Deleting Posts
 Deleting Individual Posts
To delete posts one at a time, go to the Post that is to be deleted and click on the button that says "Remove" located to the right of the title of each post. You can also remove an entire topic including all of the replies by going to the bottom of the topic and clicking on the "Remove Topic" button.

 Deleting Multiple Posts
Before you are able to delete multiple posts at the same time, you'll have to enable checkboxes. Follow the directions below to enable checkboxes.

 Moving Topics
Go to the thread that will be moved and click on the button that Says "Move Topic". Upon clicking the button, you'll see a page with several options and several different places and ways to move your topic. If you'd like to Post a redirection topic, check the box that says "Post a redirection topic."

A redirection Topic includes (by default) the original name of the thread along with a link to the Board it was moved to and a link to the newly moved topic. By default, redirection topics are locked. If you'd like to change the name of thethread that is being moved, check the box next to "Change the topic's subject." You'll then see a field where you can enter a new subject. Doing that, you can also opt to make all of the posts' subjects match that of the new subject by checking the box next to "Change every message's subject." Now all you have left to do is select the Board to move the Topic to and then click on the button that says "Move Topic".

I don't see a AVP section in the video slots section. I just got one recently, and while I'm still learning, I'd volunteer
to moderate a AVP specific forum.

Joey has explained the physical & process parts of moderation: how to move, modify, and delete posts.

I'd love to help in this most favorite forum, but would like to know more about what a moderator should do,
and when to use the tools described. For instance, in addition to pitching in with help in a familiar area, and moving threads
to more appropriate areas, does a moderator ping other members to chime in in their known area of expertise?
Post questions and surveys to keep the interest up?
Delete obscene posts?
PM users in a pissing match to grow up?

Although my expertise is limited in any specific area, I'm a highly experienced retired engineer and
technical researcher. Head-scratchers are my joy, and those "What the heck is this?" posts are my favorites.
I'd be happy to moderate such a topic, or any of the "...other/miscellaneous" topics dedicated to obscure brands.
Just want to be sure what the responsibilities and expectations are.

If needed I can tackle the Users requests as well, and anything else you want to throw my way.
I have the  S+, PE+ and S2000 docs except for the latest revisions

It looks like moderators are still needed.  Who has Bally alpha?  --among others of course.

I'm ready, willing, and able to take on CEI Video Poker machines; and if I don't break my pick moving those threads over, I'd take on Other Videos, 'cause I dig oddballs.
However, I would still appreciate an answer to my question (above), to wit: aside from the mechanics, what/when is a Moderator expected to actually do?
If I'm being a stubborn dickhead, please tell me. (...well, gently please  :)

Pretty easy job. Basically it is;

1. Enforce Terms of Service on your topic. http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=39.0 (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=39.0)
2. Transfer old edited threads. http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=79.0 (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=79.0)
3. Edit any post on your topic if necessary within TOS.
4. Move Topic, Remove Topic, Lock Topic, Set Topic non-Sticky and Merge Topics within your assigned topic .
5. If unsure that to do about an issue, PM a Global Mod or Joey.

OK, I have all the old CEI posts moved over, and I now also have Other Video.
If I can make some more time, I'll try to take on something else.
But someone seems to have surreptitiously assigned me VLC Video slots! :Scratch-Head:
Apologies, but I have no clue what a VLC machine is; never seen one or even a picture of one.
The only thing I gather from asking others is that they are '90s machines, and boat anchors.

Surely there's someone out there who actually knows and likes these things...?

We can rename the topic to "SolidSilver's boat anchors" ...  :24: :24: :24:
not to Manny post in this topic so it should be easy to moderate.. Just sweep the floor once a year and change the light bulb in the room if it go's out..
