So my V5500 poker machine CPU battery took a dump. Replaced it and I see everyone says you HAVE TO use a clear chip. Is that really the case? Or is it just because that is the easy way?
Cheers,
Mark

You need to use a clearchip if you want to change some very important settings of the machine, such as the denomination.
When you remove your battery all these settings are cleared and therefore you need to set them again using a clearchip.
This is the case what any slotmachine.

This is from NLG member Proten
The V5500 uses it's own chip and can not use
another model chip to clear.
Do Not pull any boards or unplug any plugs
with the machine powered on !
You put the U10 clear chip in the U10 socket and
turn the machine on. The screen will say Safe
ran is being cleared and then it will change and
say that the ram is clear. Then put the U10 game chip
back in the socket and restart the machine and play.

Oh boy, now I'm wondering WHAT additional settings Freespirit? When I get my clear chip I'll be wanting to tinker Im sure. As I dont have the manual for this machine I'm assume its like many other- coin denomination, etc. Is a courtesy copy of the manual available somewhere?
Cheers,

Some software requires a keypad be plugged in to change game options.
Attached are some optioning cards.

MarkInAz,
With the v5500 these settings are not that difficult to setup. The only thing you have to do is change some dipswitches on the main board and afterwards a simple Ramclear procedure.
The ramclear is easy enough to do and is explained by Sunrise Side on #2. If you have any furder questions with this you may always ask.
You will probably find the dipswitch configurations somewhere inside the machine, most of the time on the inside of the main door. If not I can give you an overview of it.
Sorry for the late respons and I hope I could help you.
Kind regards,

the bit switches allow you to specify the coinage (25 cent for example) - you will need to enter programming with the reset key - to update features such as double up - an operations and setup manual is helpful for this.
