Title: BV not powering up
Post by: ianmcneil68 on April 23, 2017, 12:34:03 PM
I have an S2000 with JCM BV that will not power up. I have swapped BV's, power supply and power distribution box. Can someone suggest some testing I can do to trace it back?
Thanks,
Ian

This is the first slot I've owned that didn't fire up the BV. Hell, the MPU could be missing and you still here the BV power up. I've done some searching and can't find a similar issue.

Is this a coin handling or coin less machine? It's possible that the bill valadator been disabled..

Coinless. Even if it was diabled, wouldn't it still power up when you first turn the machine on? I did check though. It is enabled in the menu.

It is possible that you have a bad MPU board.

I started out with a bad MPU but swapped with a known good one freom another machine. It's almost like it's not getting any power. However, I have 13 volts to the connector with red and black going to the BV.  :Scratch-Head:

WBA-13-SS. I have several and have tried them all. I'm gong to somehow make sure the connector is seating properly. It's behind everything when you slide the unit in so I may have to get creative.

I'm starting to think I may have a bad backplane. I have another machine with enhanced MPU. FROM THE WORKING MACHINE if I unplug the connector from "netplex bill validator" on the backplane, the BV does not power up. Since I have voltage on the non-working unit it must be looking for a signal from the netplex. Thoughts....?

I think you need to change the MB too.

I would put all MPUs into the know working machine first and verify if you haven't done so. Then replace the defective MB.

With the damage you had on the first MPU I would also agree that the backplane (mother board) is your next move.
Although I doubt it take another look at the MPU to make sure the backplane didn't hurt your good board.

So far the good board looks ok and works in the other machine. I should have a good board and backplane later this week. I'll let you know how it turns out.

all bill validator information comes from J-10 on the motherboard,  power connections, +13 vdc  come from pins 1 and 2,  should be common colors for power wires,  solid red for the +13vdc and black with a red tracer for its d.c. ground.  If you are getting the voltage on the pins of the connector coming out of the mother board then, its not your problem.

I have traced the issue to the BV not seating when slid into the housing. It is definitly in the housing itself as I tried 3 different BV's. Once I removed the harness from the housing and plugged it directly into the BV all worked well. By the way, just to make things more interesting, I did have 1 bad BV. So, that messed things up when figuring it out but it now has a new home in the trash  . Thanks to those who chimed in.
