Title: My new Bally Alpha S9000
Post by: Nurbo on May 10, 2015, 02:28:09 AM

Hi,

A few visits in casinos gave me an idea that I kept thinking of: acquire a Bally S9000 Alpha 5 mechanical reels (with LCD screen on top box).

After 2 years I was finally able to afford the purchase of this S9000. The game installed is Devil & Diamonds Deluxe.

It is nice, but not my favorite either.

The machine is really ok; not a single scratch, no shocks, it is perfect.

It has got a bill validator and a hopper to pay the balance in token. It has no coin entry.

It has a ticket printer but strangely it is not active and the ticket outlet is covered by a black plate that covers the entire width of the machine. The plate comes off easily, but I will need a bezel for S9000.

I have my TITO to install, but I have to make a clear ram to activate the printer and some TITO option, I prefer to wait, I have had the machine only for 2 days…

I don't know if the alpha and s9000 share the same parts but he's got this game kit if you prefer it.

It is rare (at least to me) to see an s9000 with a hopper and coin tray.  Can't say I've ever seen on live.  For the above poster an S9000 is an alpha S9000 elite, so same moniker, but for the most part, most alpha games share a lot of parts, so yes, the hot shot kit would work on his machine.  And welcome to the alpha club.  It is a very versatile platform and you will have all kinds of fun changing it around.

Yes!! Welcome to the Alpha club! Your picture reminded me when I picked up my WMS Bluebird slot from Flagstaff to Phoenix... Back of a Kia...lol

Alpha's are so customizable that you will have a blast trying to get it as close to an Alpha 2 as possible! I would recommend getting a 1gig MPU so you can run some of the newer games and boot-up on the older games are so much faster.

If you want a Quick Hit Wild Blue kit for your machine, message me and we can work something out. I just bought the kit from ebay on an impulse purchase. Let me know as that kit and Rick's hot shot will work on your machine.

Hi,

It is also the first time for me that I see a S9000 with hopper. According to the previous owner, the machine was on a cruise ship.

From what I understand of your posts, there are S9000 and Alpha?

Below the nameplate of my machine.

Otherwise, how to recognize a particular model? S9000, Alpha, Alpha Elite, Alpha 2 ...?

Thank you for information regarding the 1 gig MPU.
I did not know that it was not possible to put all the games above.

I will see later that it is possible to change and modify, but thank you Charles for your offer!

The machine you have is an Alpha S9E 5 reel machine.  The Alpha is the name given to the generation of machines, the S9000 is the model.  The naming convention depends on the configuration of the machines, but they are all some form of an Alpha.  Here are a few samples.

All S9xx are steppers

Alpha S9000 does not have a top monitor, just a plexi with a paytable.  It also has a little 6 inch monitor that goes below the reels for denomination selection and other information.
Alpha Elite S9000 is either 3 or 5 reel, and has a 15 inch top monitor.
Alpha Elite S9E same as above but has a 20 inch top monitor.

The Video line is as follows

Alpha M9000 is a 4:3 19" single monitor video machine.
Alpha elite V20 is a single monitor 20" 16:9 video machine.
Alpha elite V20/20 is a dual monitor 20" 16:9 video machine.
Alpha elite V32 is the single monitor vertically mounted 32 inch widescreen video.
Alpha elite v20/V32 has a 20 inch bottom monitor and a 32 inch vertically mounted top monitor.

There are other variants with special boxes and whatnot, but these are the ones you see regularly.

I too am interested in collecting games for my Alpha S9000. I understand that some of the video games can be played on the top box?

Congrats and welcome to the Alpha world! Yes you can load Video games on the top screen. The reels will keep spinning (unless you have newer 1gig games, then they stop once the game loads) so you will have to disconnect power on backplane behind the reels.

You can also just pull out the reel controller a bit.  That's the little board that is on a tray in the center just above the reels.  A lot of machines have a lock on this tray.  I just pull it out enough so it doesn't make contact.  It will stop the reels from spinning and you don't have to disconnect any cables.

wow...hate to bump a very old thread, but I was just reading through it, and wow...I can load games on the top screen...thats fantastic..
I just joined the Alpha club, too. I purchased 2 different units. A 5 reel, and a 4 reel.  I think I read something that led me to believe I can even re-configure the reels, and swap 5 to 3, and vice versa, with the right software!?

How do I check mine to see if I have or need that "mpu" upgrade that was mentioned?  It sounds like I want it..  :-)

I can't wait to see what all I can do with these...

Peace,
Lynny

Start a new thread to get your questions answered. Basically any alpha reel machine can be changed to 3, 4 or 5 reel.  You just need the right parts.  As far as the mpu, on your new thread, post a picture of your mpu, especially one with the area that is just behind the cf card slots, it will have the PCA number which is the identifier to see what mpu type you have.
