Title: Universal Model 619 with only door key. How do I reset the Jackpot without a Key
Post by: lhill on May 21, 2017, 06:00:43 PM
I have a Universal Model 619 Slot machine that came to me without the Jackpot reset key. Is there a way to reset it without the key? I have the key that opens the door and I see 2 micro switches on the back of the Jackpot reset switch. Can I activate 1 of those switches to reset or can I just just the rest button that is on a panel with the test button?

Thanks,
Larry

Worst case scenario, you could jumper each microswitch individually, then simultaneously to see what happens, or which one resets the jackpot. It just seems that other machines, namely konami and I think some Williams, had multifunction key switches and depending on which way you turned the key it either reset a jackpot or took you to accounting/program functions

Where did you get model 619 from??

Very cool early Universal machine!! In great shape too!! Your machine is what was called a TYPE-1 machine. No buttons, no credits, all wins paid out. Handle pull only.
Universal had no model number on their machines, that I know of.

There are a couple of things you can do. You could remove the jackpot reset lock and add a double pole/double throw toggle switch.
Or, you can just clear the RAM on the mpu, resetting the machine.
To reset the RAM, open door, remove coin tray, remove hopper. At the bottom middle of the mpu case you will see a round hole. In that round hole is a little black push button. With machine off push and hold button in and turn on machine with your other hand holding button in on startup. Hold about three seconds and release. RAM is now cleared. Replace hopper, coin tray and your done.

Thanks for the quick response. I got the model number off of the model and serial number sticker that is attached to the right side along with another plate saying the manufacture and address in Japan. I have 3 keys that came with it, but they are all stamped with 137 number on them. They open the door, but won't turn in the Jackpot or the totals reset switches. There is probably no way of getting the right keys so I will try closing the switches manully. They are pretty easy to get to so that will be easy. The main reset button is just below the reset Jackpot switches on a panel with a test switch. That is probably the reset switch I need to push to reset the ram.
Thanks again. I will let you know how it turns tomorrow as I am going to bed now. (10:00 PM here). This all started when I hit the big jackpot and got the payout. I don't know if you noticed in the photo, but the TILT light is blinking in the bottom corner. I assume that is the indication that the Jackpot has to be reset.

All is well now. I tried putting jumpers on the micro switches, but no help so I pushed the reset button that is on the same panel that has the test switch and that did it.

Thanks again for all the help.

As a follow up, the RAM reset is done on the Main Processor Unit located in the "usually green" metal case located left of the hopper. At the bottom of the case facing the hopper is a small round hole. You press the small black button in this hole while starting the machine. It will clear all previous stored memory and start new. It would clear a jackpot status.

On your pic I saw a TILT on the machine. That is different from a jackpot hit. When there is a tilt there should be a flashing code on the win display. Most code numbers have explanations on a list printed inside the door. Reading what the code means gives you a place to start. My bet is your code was hopper empty. Refilling the hopper and pressing the yellow reset would reset the tilt and the hopper would continue to finish the payout.

If your machine needs a jackpot reset, only turning the jackpot reset lock or a RAM clear will reset it. One thing about RAM clears, if the machine has credits on it, all will be lost with a RAM clear. Your machine has no credit meter so no problem there. Also, all recorded data like money in/money out is lost too. For most home users no big deal.

Thanks. It is only used as a home machine so I don't care about credits or such. You are right about the hopper being empty. I filled it back up before I pushed the reset button and it finished doing the payout. I guess I need to make sure the hopper is full when I play this machine as it pays off quite often.
Thanks again

Universal came on the scene in Vegas in 1985. That machine is one of the first. They dominated the computerized slot market until 1988. Their theme was frequent low paying jackpots. The cherry bar was one of the first. No buttons or credit meter machines are hard to find.

Very nice!  :propeller:

Thanks. I think I paid $300.00 for it. Maybe I hit the jackpot.

300 bucks is about right. Maybe someday might be worth more to someone. It is a piece of history.
