Title: S2000 from 2004. Key 17 has red LED light displaying. Can't set up properly
Post by: Arik6049 on December 27, 2022, 12:06:28 AM
Had a fine working S2000 from 2004, a "Five Star" progressive slot machine. This past weekend, friend decided to turn the jackpot key on right side of the slot machine when I wasn't around, just to see what it did and put it into a mode I have never seen. I cannot get it back up working properly. Admittedly, I am a noob at any settings menu(s). I have a 97 clear, Key 17 & the stepper base (see attached). As a noob, instead of trying more with just the key 17 ... I performed a full reset and went ahead using the 97 clear unfortunately.

1) The 97 clear key appears to be working and taking effect. Shut down the machine, pull the MPU & prepare to place the Key 17...

2) When I place the Key 17, start up the slot, wait for the 2 "amber lights" to appear ... that never happens. I get many more LED lights and also, a red blinking LED (shown in one of the pictures attached). My only thoughts:
-Do I have the proper Key? Even though I've been provided a Key 17, should I instead purchase and try any of the following: Key 31, Key 40, & Key 45 for my MPU board?
-Should I also attempt to purchase a new clear key? Possibly a 224?

3) Since I've put myself in this predicament, I've reviewed many YouTube videos and cannot arrive at the menu where it states to the user "7 KEY CHIP CONFIG." After my 97 clear, followed by me placing the Key 17 and seeing the red LED light ... I hope for the best place back in the stepper base unit I have with another power up... the message on the LED door display says: "Door Open M. Machine type mismatch," If I do a single twist of the jackpot key, I then see: Accounting, history displays, I/O tests. I feel that if I could just get to the '7 KEY CHIP CONFIG,' I could figure out the rest with all the great notes in these forums.

4) I've read many of the older forums and tried to figure out for myself what is happening, but no luck.
-From 2012, Red LED flashing. Someone didn't put the chip in proper alignment with the indentation on the Key chip (I know I'm placing mine properly though): http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=21708.0 (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=21708.0)
-From 2013, Red LED flashing light. Someone tried using a Key 17, but it seems a Key 45 is what is needed (maybe someone could help me identify if I have the wrong key per my MPU?): http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=22010.0 (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=22010.0)

IVC00224, KEY00045 recommended and will do any S2000 except those with R boards. Yours does not have an R board.
Additionally those SG000363 GME chips are not optimal for that enhanced MPU. I'm sure you get reel tilts at boot up.
The VS008GX0 should definitely be replaced. VS011GX1 recommended. PM or email me if you want chips please, assuming you are
in the US.

One more thing: That Varta battery should be removed and the U16 clipped for proper operation after it's removal. It will ruin your MPU board and is not needed outside of a casino.

red blinking light on the enhanced boards is not a good sign. What's the voltage on the varta? My guess is it's dead or mostly dead. Some times on these enhanced boards when the varta dies the board dies. You can try removing the varta and clipping u16. You can also try putting a good varta on  that board, sometimes that will work. At the end of the day I don't think you will be able to clear chip your way out.

Last time I had the red led on an enhanced board removing the dead varta and clipping u16 took care of the problem.

Red blinking light on any board just means its being reset. This can be from anything the rest of the leds are what tells you what the issue is.
