Title: Difference Between Magnetic and Optical Bill Verification
Post by: 850mph on October 19, 2023, 05:13:40 AM
Can anyone explain the difference or point to a doc which might explain how each type of verification works?

Seems like it’s all on the software, cause by reading the JCM manual, the differences are only in the “lens” set up….??

Magnetic ink is used only in US bills as far as I know.  Heads with magnetic ink detectors have what looks like old cassette tape read heads to detect the presence of the magnetic ink.  Optical readers just take samples of the bill as it passes through it.  US bill heads will read both and compare them with established standards recorded in the firmware.
