Bally 5500 from .25 to 1.00 coin
« on: March 05, 2025, 01:14:02 PM »
Hello!

I have a guy who wants to convert his .25 Bally 5500 machine to accept Ike Dollars.  I have everything from the shelf, pinwheel, coin head, optics, large coin comparator and mount, etc.   However, I am stuck on how to convert the harness that comes from the machine that plugs into the coin comparator from a small coin to a large coin connector.

The machine itself has a one piece harness from the cabinet to the comparator.  I removed the small coin comparator and mount currently in the machine to be sure there wasn't a connector behind it.   The only connector goes into the comparator.  I have a connector to use in the large coin comparator, I just need to know which wire, there are 3, goes to what position from the cabinet to which wire on the large coin comparator. Does someone know which wire goes where?  Much appreciated!

Pictures of current small coin connector as well as the large coin connector below.

Large coin harness I'd like to splice into the harness for the comparitor that comes from the cabinet.

Is it just as easy as taking the white wire with brown trace and connecting it to the white wire with brown trace to the black wire on the large coin harness, blue wire with brown trace to the purple wire on the large coin harness and white with orange to the yellow wire on the large coin harness?

Bumping this.  Can anyone confirm if the wire combo in post 3 is correct or any info on what wire from the cabinet harness would connect with the connector on the large coin comparator?  Thank you.

Change the CC-16D to $1 and leave the harness alone.

Hi Simon,

The problem is the harness from the cabinet to the comparitor is all one piece.  The connector currently for the comparitor is the typical 5 or 6 pin single row connector though it only has 3 wires present.

The large coin comparitor has 3 wires coming from it and is a 3 pin connector so unfortunately I can't use either connector as is.

So I'm curious if it's known what wire from the cabinet should connect with what wire on the big coin comparitor.  I'd figure one wire is ground, one wire powers the comparitor and then what wire sends the pulse to the mpu

Curious, the picture you posted, the cover is off the comparitor.  Please post a picture of the cover, I'd like to see what you are trying to work with.

It's a CC-33-D.  I have several of these I tested in a IGT S+.  It runs grey wires to the coil which I believe the 5500/6000 also use.

Thank you for your responses this far.

You're going the wrong direction.  Simply convert your quarter comparitor to a dollar, change the coin optic block and coin head, then coin handling is done.

Wow great thought!  I'll look into that further!  I'd heard people would convert the comparitor from large coin to Small coin but had forgotten about that. Thank you!

If you want to go the short route send me a PM, I probably have an intact dollar CC-16.  Some of the little parts like the spacer for the sample coin channel can be difficult to find if you don't have a bunch coin handling stuff laying around.
