I have an older gameking that has the old style ballast with a starter. Either the ballast or starter on the belly glass is bad (I have them disconnected now). Can I replace them with the newer style Electronic ballast? Would I need to replace the top glass ballast as well (I probably would even if it's not necessary)? What is involved in this change? My other option would be switch to LEDs if I did what would I need if I went that route?

consider converting to LED by doing a ballast bypass...Here is a example of a 12" LED tube that requires a ballast bypass...Usually cheaper to do this conversion and almost never replace the tube again...

Thank you for the reply. That's exactly what I was looking for. Would I just bypass the starter and ballast and hook the blue and brown wires directly to the lamp?
I just noticed the lamp you pointed me to says it's 9-15 volts. If I'm not mistaken the power going to the fluorescent is 25 volts is this an issue and what would I need to correct it?

make sure you check the voltage, it could be 110-120v. If it is 24 volts, or 12 volts, you can buy led strips at the desired voltage, and tie wrap them to the tube. very inexpensive. I'll post a picture after

yes, cut to length and solder wires to the end, it's easy. it does come with each end soldered already, but the wires aren't long. I bought from Aliexpress, which has a long lead time, but 15 feet for about $10 Canadian was a great deal. I was impressed with the brightness.

P.S. what 69 Mopar do you have? Not that it matters, I have always thought their entire line from 1968-70 were the best looking group of cars ever made. GM and Ford each had a couple good looking cars those years, but the design team for Chrysler Plymouth and Dodge didn't have a car in the group that wasn't really good looking (This is coming from someone who owns a couple old GMs🤭)

Most lights that use the starters are 110-120. If your machine has a 24 volt, that is on all the time the machine is on, you can tap into that. Or a 12 volt. It should have both.

The older game king cabinets like yours use 120VAC ballasts and starters. The newer cabinets use +25VDC electronic ballasts. Most of the LED conversion tubes are designed to replace the +25VDC ballast and in many cases have a power connector designed to do it. So you simply unplug the +25VDC from the ballast and plug it into the replacement LED tube power connection.
To convert yours you have a couple of choices. You can find a LED tube that uses 120VAC power. For those you have to remove the ballast and starter and rewire the tombstone connectors so 120VAC hot is on one end, and 120VAC neutral is on the other. The other option is to get a +25VDC LED tube and find a +25vdc power source from the machine to connect it to.

I installed a 110VAC outlet in the machine for the TITO so I'll use an AC/DC converter. Since either is available to me,, is there an advantage to 24volt over 12volt? Or should I save a few $$ and go 12v ?
