Title: WBA 12 Woes - No lights, No Nothing
Post by: Kbelcher on November 13, 2023, 07:31:37 PM
Hello All,
Have a 17" game king upright that I bought not working. Have replaced the MPU, flash, and MB. Went through the setup and enabled the BV. Also enabled the printer and it printed a test ticket just fine. The BV doesn't cycle nor do any lights come on. Tried the 123,8 dip settings, still nothing. Meter reads 13v, so power is there. Getting both a BV comm failure and meter disconnected error (hoping the meter error goes away after BV is fixed?). Tried a jumper on the meter harness pins 9&10, but the meter error remained.

Any other suggestions? I see spin inc has just the transport for about $50 shipped. Also wondering if the programming chip can go bad and cause a no power/cycle issue like this.

Thanks in advance for your time!

If the red LEDS are not lit, then the transport has failed.

I figured. Ordered one this morning! Thanks for the reply.

Well I got a different (tested) transport and still nothing. No sound no nothing. Any other tips/ideas?

LEDS are not lit on the transport?

Where did you measure that +13VDC at?

No lights on transport

I measured at the connector inside the BV cage and at the connector on the bottom of the cage. I'm not sure what the pinouts are, but I know one had 13v

I don't know if you've noticed or not, but there's nothing covering the eprom's UV erasure glass.
Natural light destroys chips that aren't covered.
Without a chip programmer, you have no idea if the programmed data inside that chip hasn't been corrupted.
Why don't you send it out to be serviced by the people that sold you your new ones?  :Scratch-Head:

I've circled for you, the UV Erasure glass via Windows Paint.

The pic is of the old one. The new one the chip is properly covered

So I lied. I only get 13 off the connector on the bottom, not inside the cage. Dug around back there and found a broken connector with  power and the other side goes to the BV connector. The pins are gone and both look like female. Any tips to connect these? They are tiny wires...

Where did you measure that +13VDC at?

Well I believe you've found your problem.  They should be red and black wires.  If the connectors are damaged you could either replace the wiring harness, or simply splice the wire together.  Solder and heatshrink would be the best way.

Yes, those are the power wires for the validator alright.  It looks like the connector that goes to the connector on the back of the validator is the one that is damaged.  If so you can replace it with a new harness.  Personally I'd just splice it and call it a day myself though.

Good job  :applause:  When you said the second transport was dead too that led me to ask where you measured the +13VDC at.  The odds of two transports being completely dead are pretty low, so I figured it was elsewhere in the machine itself.
