Title: IGT touch pad repair need part number
Post by: Jim on March 27, 2017, 07:16:42 PM
there are four/ six leg IC's  on the board, one for each quadrant,  they come off when trying to remove the touch pad from the glass!!  the only info on the chip is 2APD,   which doesn't cross over to anything.  does anyone know what type of device it is and where can I get some.  have alot of the touch pads with some missing,  want to repair them.  going to try my luck on SMD repair using hot air.  anyone know a good place to purchase the solder paste using in this process?

Thanks

Jim

I asked the same question a wile back did not get any answer. i have repaired quite a few of these boards by using doners. I am out of doners tho.

I have 2 of unknown working condition, though they have all 4 IC's still mounted. Jim gets first shot, but a $10 donation to the site gets them shipped.

Yes of course he would. I was only saying if he didn't want them. Sorry if i seemed disrespectful.

Also i noticed i missed part of the original question. U had asked about soldering paste. I am by no means an expert so everything im about to say is just my experience. A special soldering paste is not really needed in this type of application. I have actually never used it. I think its for reballing bga chips or to apply solder to an entire board using a mask. During this process you will be adding flux as needed. I normally clean up the old soldier with a de soldering braid. you have to be very careful doing this you can easily lift traces off the board. do not drag accrost the board, and if at any point the braid gets stuck it's probably soldered to a pad or trace. Once the old solder is removed you can tin the pads using standard solder and flux. I recommend a leaded solder as it means you can use lower temperatures but use whatever your comfortable with. Then add the new part if you don't already know how to do this feel free to ask me questions. And one piece of advice on this specific board you should not need a pre heater. if you have one and want to use it start at a low temp. The first time i tried one of these boards i over heated it with my pre heat and the board got very dark not letting light through it. You can also over heat the board with just the hot air, but if you do the dark spot should be localized to where your working.

It's all good, just acknowledging what you'd already stated
