Title: Alpha 2 Pro Video Topper - No Signal
Post by: SlotFreak on June 28, 2019, 08:00:38 PM
Im getting a “No Signal” on the Topper. Was working fine. Game
functions fine with the topper out of service. Im
still new to Alpha 2 machines. Any clue where i should
be looking to fix this? Thanks in advance, Pete

1) On the front of the MPU (not on the video card). The bottom VGA port is where the topper comes from - make sure its plugged in or not loose.

2) If thats snug... OPEN the main door (the bottom monitor. Look inside and and towards the top, make sure that the VGA cable is didn't come loose opening that door.

3) remove the top monitor and make sure the VGA cable is connected that leads up to the video topper.

Have you tried to RAM CLEAR and start fresh?

No, That will be my next step. Hopefully that solves the problem.

At what point did the display go out at?
When opening/closing a hatch or door? Turning on/off the machine?
I'd try a different video cable 1st from a working machine to see if there's an internal wire break in that harness? if you have one laying around?

The topper stopped working when i powered the machine on. Nobody besides myself touches the machine and it wasn’t moved.

Aside from the no signal message, if it means anything the side led lighting works and syncs with the rest of the led lighting on the machine  so at least the lighting is communicating with the machine.

connect a laptop to the vga cable that leads to the topper to see if it works.  You might have a bad AD board if the problem persists with the laptop.  You can also test that theory if the monitor has a DVI plug, hook up a DVI signal to it (plug it into the main dvi port on the video card and boot to test).  If you get a signal with dvi but not vga, then it's your AD board, probably needs to be re-capped.

UPDATE: When i originally checked the vga cable,
it looked snug so i didnt think it was a problem.  I just
went back and physically took it off and put it back on
and now i have a signal. Thank you all for the input.
Everything is a learning process with me on these new
machines. I sincerely appreciate all the helpful tips
