Title: What is this part on my Summit board
Post by: Shaggy on May 14, 2015, 06:53:23 AM
It looks like a battery but says 100v DC on it. I checked it with my meter and it reads 49v DC. Just curious if it has anything to do with the solenoid operation. Thanks.

This is a capacitor and they do go bad from age, as Summit is an old machine. The part is inexpensive and worth a try.

One thing to remember when working with capacitors is to discharge them. They will or can give you a nasty shock.

Yes indeed. The thing I see is the listing for the capacitor lists it for audio use. I do have a speaker but it's working. I suspect the trouble is elsewhere. More checking.

The 100v DC written on the side of the capacitor is its maximum voltage rating (spec). Depending on the circuit it is installed in there could be any voltage from 1 to 100 volts. I think a lot of older Bally's and probably other machines like Summit did use 50 volts for some of their solenoid operation.
