Title: 2 new pick ups, need advice on what to do with them.
Post by: puckhead on November 24, 2015, 10:43:36 AM
i believe there are early S plus, please confirm.

one works. the other takes coins, they drop into the hopper, but no game play. any ideas?

also, one of the bill validators has bent sheet metal and looks terrible. remove it?  i only drop coins anyway. is the set up procedure for the embedded validators the same for these, with the BV chip?

finally, the sheet metal skins on there games are nasty. loose, bent.  im thinking i should remove them, and paint or use wood grain vinyl . what you you do?

may have to break up this pics into two posts

thanks mike

Yes early S+ models.

Coin drops in hopper, but no credits given is probably bad coin-in optics.  Clean and try again. If not, try the ones from the other working game to see if it fixes the issue.

swapped the coin optics from game to game. no change. the one from the non working one works in the working one.   the working one is an early s plus, double diamond. the ones that doesnt add credits is a triple diamond. i reseated the connectors, didnt help. i thought i would try to use the triple diamond cpu in the double diamond game, but i get an error 61.  i was thinking maybe the cpu has an issue, and swapping would confirm or rule that out. i didnt want to take a chance on clearing the error 61 and really screw things up. should i try to clear the 61 and see if the cpu helps?

at this point i may need a schematic of the wiring , to test at the cpu and see if there is a change of state when a coin drops. i could also simulate a coin drop and see if it credits up. i downloaded the marshall fey manual, and the s plus electronic repair manual.

anyone ever experience this? coins drop into hopper, so comparitor is good. doesnt add credits to game.

thanks

To clear the 61, just hold the self test button for 4-5 seconds while watching the display. 61 will change to 61-2. At that point, close and latch door completely, then turn brass reset key on side of machine ONCE. Follow these instructions exactly! Do not do these things out of order or it may get stuck in a loop for which you may need to perform a Clear on the machine.

The comparitor may have it's rake permanently open, so all coins drop into the hopper area. Did you also move the comparitor over from the other machine?  The sequence of comparitor pass and then optics sequence must be in the right order for the machine to give you credits.  If after moving the entire coin comparitor and optics assemblies over to the non-functioning machine, it still doesn't work,  I would suspect the wiring harnesses.  In these machines, the MPU is rarely at fault.

i did move the comparitor,  didnt help. that was one of my first thoughts,  but i think the comparitor defaults to reject coins if its not working.    the deflector isnt jammed and moves freely. i'll have to bone up on the wiring. the online schematics are tough to read, a bit blurry.

You can also test your comparitor / divertor by putting in the wrong coin.
If you drop a dime in vs a quarter the dime should fall out to the coin tray.  If it goes to the hopper then you know the divertor solinoid is dead or not getting power.
You may also want to swap out your sample coin. I use tokens in mine and occasionally (once every 2 yrs) I find that the coin needs to be replaced. i am thinking the token becomes magnitized by the comparitor coil. Not sure if this happens with real coins, but its a simple thing to do.
