Title: Motherboard sonalert buzzing on a Bally M9000 machine
Post by: techtoons on January 28, 2022, 09:26:58 AM
Update: Thanks to Team Clark, I bought and swapped out an MPU. It's a newer version of the one I had and I didn't have to mess with swapping chips.  All is good. Thanks

I've got an American Original that I've had for a few years. A little over a year ago the monitor went out. I swapped out the power supplies to no avail. I was able to plug in an external monitor and play the game (albeit without touch). Shortly after that, I had to put the machine in storage. I've just brought it out and are trying to resurrect it.

When I plugged it in and powered up, I heard a buzzing. Suspecting a fan either had something blocking the blades, I checked all fans - nothing.

I pulled the CPU and plugged it in on the bench, and found the solalert on the motherboard was making the noise. I replaced both the 2032 batteries on the board, thinking it was a battery warning, but it's still going off.

Anyone have an idea?

As a side note, I need a monitor for it. It's a Tatung model L19LA25M21LC03. A year ago I tried to order one from GET.T. After being strung along for a month they said they didn't have any and couldn't say when they'd get more.

Thanks Sixcardmark,

Sounds like some complicated fixes, but it gives me some things to try. I've only got this one bally, so not much in spare parts. I'll probably putting out the word on the "wanted to buy" forum :)

thanks again.

As a side note, I have an IGT S2000 machine (Lotus Flower) and an Aristocrat MK6 box that were all in storage. The lotus tossed a low battery message before I put it away, but I never got to change it out.

The aristocrat just fired up, nothing to do. The IGT needed two new batteries, a keychip treatment and setup, and it's running fine. Had to be my favorite machine though that has the most problems. :(

Never seen a S2000 Lotus Flower game. I thought that was an I Game title only. Post a picture of the monitor you need. I have a NOS Alpha touch monitor in the box. I am thinking it is a 20" though not 19".

RB has the cards and chip you need for the Bally to get rid of the buzzing alarm.

I'm not familiar with RB, is that his/her handle? I'm definitely interested.

Hah, I was pretty sure it was an S2000, probably wrong ;)

I haven't pulled the monitor yet, but attaching the photos.

I'm also looking for a set of chips that will fix the motherboard buzzing.

Duh, I was reading from the bottom up. RB was right above your message.   :duh:
