Title: Project S2000 lots of issues
Post by: Phan000 on February 10, 2023, 08:18:01 AM
Picked up this double diamond haywire.

Was partially used as a parts machine & owner did not remove things very carefully.

With a PSU swap, only the board lights up and reels stiffen.

All of the fluorescents are gone,  but service light should turn on?

The coin-in display is gone.  Will replace.

VFD does not light up, even with known working board.

Would the missing coin-in affect the VFD?

Check the power supply output voltages and make sure you have a good +13 and +25v supply.

I'd ditch the fluorescent lamps and electronic ballasts and use LED tubes in their place, but the e-ballasts operate off of the +25VDC supply.

The service light operates off the +12V power supply inside of and used by the comm interface.  It should work anytime the machine is plugged into AC power.

The coin-in won't affect the VFD, but if the VFD controller is bad or doesn't have power it will.

Started making a little progress on this machine.  Replaced mpu. Power supply, vfd, motherboard.

Machine boots now, but no lighting, fan, or service lamp.  Tried swapping good ballast, but still no florescent lights.

I’m get a coin-in error, and open MB.  I’ve jumped belly door switch.  Bill Val switch wiring is missing.

Cash out, spin, max bet buttons are lit, but do not work & machine won’t cycle through options using buttons.

Make sure all the big light blue and brown wires are connected from the power supply unit behind the reels down to the PDU - those wires carry the AC voltage for your fluorescent lighting.
Changing ballasts won't help if you don't have the correct voltage running thru those lines.
What voltage readings are you getting from the PDU?

Not making much progress.

There is power, however the wiring harnesses may be damaged.  Someone unbundled and disconnected multiple sections.

Still no fluorescent lighting.

What bundle/ end should I look to assess lighting issues?

Board is working, coin in and door b tilt still.

Check and see if you have +25VDC going to the ballasts for starters.

25v and 13v going into the PDU.

No power at any of the orange connections for the door harness, or top power supply.

Wiring is a nightmare,  not sure where to look or what to replace next.

Mpu is working and functioning with B tilt and coin in jam.

You need to plug in that multi-colored ribbon cable into the black ribbon header located just to the left of where it says "WAP" on the PDU.
It goes from the PDU into the backplane to a black header located on the right-hand side of it.

Also, on top of the PDU, in the middle sort of, there are two small black header connectors.
One of them is 2-pin connector.
There would be a 2-pin black connector harness with a red wire and a black wire plugged into it for the 12Vdc Service Lamp up behind the bill acceptor's cash box housing.

If you can in the future, use the green  "Attachments and other options" button under the text to add photos.
To get to it, hit the green "Modify" button up on the right hand corner here.
Putting photos into the text area makes it hard to look at the photo because you can't move the photo around.

You're right about the wiring tho...its a mess right now but not that hard to figure and straigthen out.
To make it neater, you need to separate harnesses that go to different devices and areas in the machine and tie wrap them.
