Title: Bally S5500 Bill Validator and stacker issue - Any ideas?
Post by: scrap2cast on February 22, 2023, 02:44:31 PM
Hi everyone, first time posting here but I've been lurking for awhile.  I just recently acquired a Bally S5000 Proslot that I was told works 100%.  All it needed was a battery on the MPU board and a power cord.  Well after replacing the battery on the board and doing the ram clear (Model is from 1993) the machine worked great.  It accepted bills for the first few days.  When I removed the bills from the box, I started having issues with the bill acceptor.  The part # is DPV-145SH.  What is happening is the motor for the stacker keeps going up and down, up and down.  It constantly does this and will not allow me to put any bills in the bill acceptor.  Any ideas on what I can do to fix the issue?  I can still put coins in the machine but I would like to get the bill validator working.  Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.  The game is called Plum Crazy.

Bypassing the door switches is always a good start.
See attached.
The next step is to get some light oil and lube all moving parts of the transport, stacker, and bill validator.

Do what Badbaud mentioned. Lubricate the transport . From the inside behind the 145 head, you should be able to lift out the transport.

Is it necessary to bypass the switches?  I was hoping to keep everything intact as I'm one of those "keep everything original kinda guys"  From what I can gather, all the switches are operating correctly.  I took your advice and started lubricating the parts.  Do I need to lubricate all the belts and rollers?  Anywhere I saw a gear I put a drop of 3-in-1 oil on it and rubbed it around all the teeth.  After doing that I put the transport back in and it's still doing the same thing, but it seems like it's trying to communicate with the bill validator now which it wasn't doing yesterday.  I appreciate your advice as it appears I'm getting one step closer to getting this validator, stacker and transport working.

Yup I took out the transport and lubricated all the gears that I could find.  Should I be lubricating the inner parts of the belts and the rollers?  The belts appear filthy and in some areas you can see where they are warped from being on the same spot for 20 years.  I estimate this slot wasn't used since 2003 as the Lithium battery on the MPU board expired 11/03 (I already replaced it).

The switches are old and cause problems.
We lubricate the belts with Rubber Rejuvenator but I hear a dab of brake fluid on a Q-Tip will help.
Don't put light oil directly on the belts.

I took everyone's advice and lubed up all the parts.  Worked like a charm!  Thanks a bunch everyone for all the help, now I can enjoy this slot machine the way it was meant to be played "TAKE MY MONEY"   :thank_you:
