Title: Bally S9000 error
Post by: Border01 on March 21, 2023, 04:46:27 PM
I got my first Bally S9000. I finally found a post on how to turn it on. It loads up and VFD? All have 8’s and the reels continuously spin round and round. Not entirely sure how to resolve

Does it have a OS card and a game card in the brainbox?  Do you have the correct clear card?

This is what’s in it

I didn't get a clear or install card with it. Not sure what the correct one is. I do have a clear and install cards for an Alpha 2 but I doubt that would work?

You need a 335 clear to go with that OS. I can send you one. PM me if interested.

If you have to clear it, which it looks like you do, it would be best to replace all batteries first.

Ok. Do you happen to know what cards are required?

Post by: sixcardmark on March 21, 2023, 06:55:24 PM
The 335 clear is all you will need.

Post by: Border01 on March 21, 2023, 06:57:44 PM
Thank you very much. Would you happen to have one?  And no install card required?

Post by: sixcardmark on March 21, 2023, 07:03:59 PM
See reply #5 from RB.  There is no install card.  When machine clears you replace clear card with OS card and install game.  Always turn the machines 3 switches on from left to right and off from right to left to avoid corruption.

Did the lights on the front of the brain box light up when the reels were spinning and spinning?  If not you need to flip the switch on the brain box (after turning on the other 2 switches first)

Ok. I feel really bad right now. I bought 2 machines and made the error that the clear card I was given was for the WMS machine. It’s actually a Bally 335 clear.  I cleared it but don’t know what to do next?

After clear is complete turn off the brain box switch and remove the clear card and replace it with the OS card.  Insert the game card in lower slot.  Turn the box back on and wait quite a while.  Press white test button on box to bring up menu.  If test button buzzes it's still loading. Go to setup.

This will get you started.  Does game have progressives?

No progressive on it. Here’s a pic

Is it myan treasures?  It has one progressive.   JP0 = 10,000 x Denomination

There are videos on youtube on how to setup a Tito card on S9000.  This will show you how to set machine up.  If no tito installed, if you cash out it will go to handpay until you install one.

S9000s are not easy to setup for the first time.  You probably won't get it right the first time, so be warned.

So far after the clear I can’t even get into setup. Just reels spinning and bunch of 8’s displayed. Perhaps I have a bad game or os card. I’m clueless. It clearly displays a full clear but when I reinstall game and os I start with the same issues

Maybe the issue is that I didn’t close the door where the os card goes?  I just noticed it has a door switch on it that

That would just show the logic door open. Doesn't affect boot up.  Looks like it isn't fully booting. Could be software or mpu. I've had some that had a weak mpu power supply, they worked, but would have repeated issues. New ps, and the mpu worked fine.

How long do you let it boot up for?  I just read the thread. Sounds like you don't let it boot for long enough.  It can take quite some time, depending on which mpu. They range from 300mhz to 1ghz, and the 336 os takes longer than the smaller os.   Leave it for at least 30 minutes and see if it completes

Ok. I will give it more time. This is my first S9000 so I’m clearly clueless on boot process. Is it normal for the reels to constantly spin after a couple minutes?  Do they continue to spin until it’s fully booted?
Title: Re: Bally S9000 error
Post by: a69mopar on March 22, 2023, 08:45:06 AM
Yes. They spin for a while.

I will to another clear, re-install game and OS, close MPU door. Can someone let me know if I close the Main door for boot like most other machines or do I leave the main door open?

Leave them open.  Did you replace all batteries?

I replaced the 2 batteries on the MPU. Are there any more?  Don’t close MPU or Main doors during boot?  Will a Tito from a WMS BB2 work on this machine?

There is also one on the backplane.  I think tito is same I would need to see the pinout.  Close all doors once everything is setup.

Boot up time on my S9000 Alpha is about 8min...yours could be longer or shorter depending on the processor speed.

Well I fell for it. Ok the good news. I got to the setup menu followed the instructions for setup with Tito. I do not have a Tito   After completion I have a printer comm error. Found the problem is there is no wire harness at all from the printer so obviously I would have to get one. Now I want to setup with no printer and go to hand pay. I cannot find setup procedure to do that. I understand the no printer but that would require changing other things in set up.

Clear first, then
Machine devices. Printer = no printer.

Only set up the devices you have.  If it's coinless, no hopper or coin comparator. Set what type of bill validator.  Probably a jcm wba 22 or 23, or 12 or 13. If so, jcm.

Ok. I’m really close. Everything works except the number of credit buttons. It only allows me to bet one credit with the large rebet button the other 5 buttons do nothing. I set up the button panel as a 5 button. My next option was 11 or 14. Is it the button panel or an error on my credit setup?  I chose 5 line 5 credit

I usually set those as 11 or 14. 5 button has fewer buttons

Well thanks to all your help I’m fully working now. Lesson learned all I needed to do from the get go was give it time to load.

If it's not done loading it should buzz when you press the test button.  See reply#13.  Replacing the battery on backplane could have done the trick.

Did you allow this game to fully load? It will sit on the S9000 screen for about 5-10 minutes before it fully loads. The Flash 8888s are normal until the game is fully loaded.

I have never owned an S9000. I powered it up and after a couple minutes all the reels were spinning around and 8’s were displaying. I thought it had an issue. Had I left it longer around 10 minutes it might have been just fine. Inexperience on my part. On the plus side I did replace all the batteries and learned a lesson
