Bally E-1000 flickering Win Meter and slowly reacting
« on: May 17, 2021, 01:45:57 AM »
Hello

I recently bought a Bally E-1000 5ct Machine. It has EPROMs from the Flamingo Hilton. So maybe this Machine was even in Las Vegas.
However it also has some Problems:

1.) The Win Meter is flickering from left to right. So the numbers are flickering in the same frequency but one after the other and not all at the same time.
2.) The Coin Switch is reacting very slowly and sometimes you need to press it multiple times until the machine reacts. The coin switch itself is totally fine. I tested and replaced it. All contacts to the I/O Board are clean.
3.) The Reels are spinning way too long. It takes around 8-10 seconds until the first solenoid reacts and the first reel stops. It also shows often a 43, 42 error. I replaced the Reader Boards with one from a running machine which doesn't change anything. The Reel Reader test works totally fine.

I replaced the 33uF and the 2,2uF Capacitors on the MPU Board and also the 10000uF Capacitor on the Power Supply Board. I also cleaned all contacts and resoldered the RAM Board.

Hope someone can help me with this Machine

Greetings from Germany

Thanks for your answer. I don't have a second Board. But I checked the Power Supply again after your hint and found a broken diode. I then decided to replace some parts. I replaced the Transistor, every Capacitor, all Diodes and the Rectifier but unfortunately it didn't changed anything.

Take a look at the crystal on the MPU. A flaky crystal will cause the microprocessor to slow down. Also, the supporting components for the clock signal (capacitors, etc.).

Thanks for your help. I replaced the Crystal which also didn't change anything. I am now going to replace the Capacitors around it even tho I measured nearly the correct capacity. But they don't cost much and maybe this will help

Your low voltage detect circuit is going crazy, solder a jumper across the contacts of the small reed relay on the computer board.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Thanks for your answer. I somehow just read it now (nearly two years later). I soldered a jumper on the contacts last week, but unfortunately it didn't change anything. Do you maybe have any other idea?
