ok im going to try to explain this the best I can. I have Reel em in 3 reel, 3 coin game. It boots maybe ONCE every 35 times if im lucky when I turn it on. Now I also have a Williams Magic Lamp that works great & here is where it gets interesting.
I can take the reel em in cpu (with reel em in roms) pop it in the magic lamp it boots every time & plays
I can take the magic lamp (with magi lamp roms) pop it in the reel em in & it boots every time & plays
I can take the roms from the magic lamp, put them in the reel em in cpu, pop it in rell em in works great
have disconnected the reels, door switches everything...even did the ATX power mod which I knew wasnt it as the game plays with magic lamp roms but did any ways.
Even switched the backplane as I thought maybe the eprom was the problem...nope.... no matter WHAT I do if I pop the reel em in roms in the reel em in game it will not boot...red led on IO blinks...gives the bong...no display & its not fully booting. I have been messing on & off with this game for over a year...I get pissed off at it & back in storage it goes...so on & so on....
SO, my last line of thinking is...is there a DIFFERENT clear chip for "reel" williams games versus dotmation ones? I was told & always under the impression they were the SAME CLEAR CHIP (by the way when I clear the game the display boots up & I get that different bong telling me its cleared). Even when I clear it it does NOT say CLR on the display ever.... when I put the magic Lamp cpu in reel em in it doesnt say G6ME CH6NGE... it just PLAYS!! IM out of ideas... I want this to work...anyone verify the clear chip fiasco OR give me a possible solution!??! Im losing my mind over this!!

Sorry for the long rant/post.... please give some insight if you can & thanks in advance,

Greg

A little late here, but just perusing over posts. Seems you narrowed it down to the eproms is the next thing to try, kinda. Or if I am reading correct, just swap the glass and reel strips and both machines are working?

Oh, that would be an problem in swapping them. Those are some really weird issues. I used the same clear chip on dot and non-dot games, but I am no expert on any of this. I had some very weird things going on and wound up some creature was in the machine at some point and I had insulation and other things behind the reels on top of the backplane connectors.  It does not make much sense that it plays without a clear when you swap, but seems to me the next thing is to try new reel em in eproms. Not much help I know, but good luck!
