Title: Problems with Alpha 5 reel Cinereel
Post by: ianmcneil68 on March 18, 2017, 04:07:15 AM
Hang in there, this may be a long one. I own several IGT machines and couldn't pass up a deal on this Bally that I found for $50 The guy wanted $400, I tried $200 b/c he said the BV was missing. He said no. He messaged me after moving it saying it would not even power up now and he'd take $50. Well, he had partially pulled the power cord from the supply and the BV was in the cabinet, just not mounted.

I power up the machine, reels start spinning slow, LED's going through what I presume is a test sequence, screen goes through boot process and eventually arrives at gameplay screen. However, the reels never stopped spinning. I push the test button, find the reel calibration, do so and the reels do a fast spin and stop.

All seemed well except that I had multiple door open and closure errors and the BV would not take money. I tested the BV and found that some of the door switches had been bypassed. Me being an IGT guy I thought I'd check the batteries. They were all pretty low so I changed them out (before consulting the forum on the subject).

What I have now is that the reels never spin, no reel LED's and the monitor boots narmally all the way up to the game file and goes dark. If I switch off the MPU the reels start spinning and reels led's flash so I'm assuming I corrupted something by changing the batteries.

Now for my questions: (see pics)
1) Will a clear at least get me back to where I started?
2) Which clear do I need and who's got one for sale? Update: I figured out I need the clear 312. Found and ordered!
3) Which board do I have?
4) What does it mean when the reels only spin slow?

If someone has a clear I would also need an attendant switch. I'm out of spares.
Thanks in adavnce. I will try to study up while waiting for experts to chime in. These are far different machines than my S2000's.

Well for one, your game cf is the video version based on the label, that would be why your reels never stop spinning.  I bet if you just disconnect the usb and power to the reel board, the game will boot anyway.  When it said call attendant, did you ever turn the jackpot reset key to see what the "Call Attendat" was for?

For the record, if you had the correct software, this is what should be displayed on the monitor.

I got no response from the attendant key, so I ohmed it out and it's no good. That pic was from the ad where the guy was selling it. I never saw call attendant come up. When I first brought it home the monitor would boot and end up at that very screen you posted but then would go to a video reels screen. It was only after I swapped the batteries that it stopped loading the game. I take it you're saying that the video version won't work for me? The guy I bought it from never saw it work because he found it in a storage he won at auction. If a clear and new cf software is all it takes, I'd be happy with that. I have clear312 on the way. I'll run through that and see what happens. In the mean time I will try pulling the USB and see what happens. Thanks for the response.

From the looks of the plate in the picture this was "remanufactured" by LA Slot Machine Co.

Thanks, Ken. Thank God 98% of people are clueless when it comes to slot repair. Probelem is, if I don't sell some of these things my wife is going to kill me. You read it here, if I go missing, you know what happened. :24: :rotfl:   :24: :rotfl:

You have the version that works as both reel and video.  There is an older version of the software that is video only or reel only.  Looks like you got the newer one.
