Title: Help. What did I buy?
Post by: B G Indiana on March 28, 2022, 01:48:02 PM
On impulse, I bought this non-working slot machine at an estate sale this past weekend. I don't know what I bought. It powers up and they told me the reels did not move.

Can someone tell me what I bought and where I might get a manual? There was no manual with the machine and the only key I have opens the front. So are there other keys or tools I will need? I think I have attached a photo of the machine.

I hope I did this right as I have never posted to any forum. (so real new newbie)

Not an "M" machine but an Aristocrat with IGT slapped on the front. Subject moved to "Reel Slots - Other."
Here's a link from the archive site that will give you a little bit of history on this machine.

Hopefully a few members will chime in on this!

It looks like an Esprit, though I'd have to look inside to know. It's unusual to find one these days in proper working order. Sometimes chips on the CPU board are bad, and the EPROMs are well past the age they were specified to hold their memory, but you may be lucky. I repaired one once but it took me nearly a year. There is (or was) a paper manual in the archives at the NLG shop and I placed a scan of it here in the files section. The mechanism is a curious hybrid of mechanical with electronic control, which is to say, if the main program isn't running you can't make the reels spin even though they're mechanically operated.

IGT imported and badged these games during the years when their agreement with Bally forbid them from making a reel slot - Bally was similarly enjoined from making a video machine. When the agreement was over, IGT dropped Aristocrat like a hot potato and slandered them to the Nevada gaming board so that they couldn't get a Nevada license to compete with IGT.

Thanks for the reply.
Not sure what you need to see inside to help me determine if it is an Esprit.  But here are some additional pics that might help.
Although I know about pinball and vending machines, I know nothing about slots. So anything you can tell me or suggest I do to test this machine would be helpful. In addition to manuals I need to know if there are any tools or keys I need to get. Currently I have nothing except the door key.

Thanks.

This is a unique one.
It would be nice to see it come to life.

If all else fails it would appear you have the space to gut and install S+ components to replace the inner workings.

Need to find a paytable close to the one you have to get the right chips so the original glass could continue to be used.

Well it's an Atlas, not an Esprit, though closely related. Sorry, I don't know anything about the Atlas.
